Middle English Period (1100-1485)

1. I liked this period because of an emphasis in chivalry through awards like The Order of the Garter. Poems like Sir Gawain and the Green Knight address things like verbal promises, which Sir Gawain kept even though he was afraid of dying. Verbal promises are really important for chivalry. Breaking a promise can be punishable by death back then.
2. This article relates to the time period because it brings into focus an minor outbreak of the bubonic plague in Inner Mongolia in China. The Bubonic plague in the Middle English Period was one the most devastating viruses in human history, infecting and killing several million people. Although the minor outbreak in Inner Mongolia was supressed because of the extensive knowledge scientists have on the plague, we can't help but think about the bubonic plague outbreak since we are currently in a pandemic.

The Renaissance (1300-1600)

1. This is probably my favorite period out the four because this period LITERALLY shaped modern history. Without the advancements that were made in this era, there would've been no Christopher Columbus, no U.S. and the world we know today would've been much different. The Renaissance also produced a lot of art and literature. The Mona Lisa, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and many more pieces are well-known pieces which are still studied and admired to this day.
2. The person depicted above is William Shakespeare. William Shakespeare probably had a bigger impact on society more than any other writer. Some of his work are still used in schools and colleges today in English classes. Instead of the norm, which was about religion or mythology, Shakespeare's writings focused on the human life and the power of a normal person. This was called Humanism.

1. This period kickstarted the rise of technology with the Industrial Revolution. Inventions such as the telegraph, which helped people communicate with each other much more, and railroads, which lowered commute times for long distance traveling. There was a lot of reform going on, both in politics, where countries with monarchs became more democratic and in social life, changing education, health, and worker life.
2. The person in the picture above is Queen Victoria, queen of Great Britain during this period and who this period was named after. During her reign, Great Britain became much more democratic with more power going to the Parliament away fromt the monarch. Great Britain was also increasing their colonialism and expanding her power and became one the biggest superpowers in the world during this period.

1. The Modern Period was one of the most turbulent periods in human history. There were highs and lows and the world went thorugh two wars that killed enormous amounts of people in the span of a few years. It was also a period of change and conflicting ideas. More people drifted away from religion and at the end of the period, there were two political ideologies that prevaled, Capitalism and Communism.
2. The picture above some of the war scenes during World War II. The World Wars were one of the most devasting wars in human history. Millions of people died and millions more were injured. The two wars shaped the world that we live in today with some of the aftereffects of the war still existing today.
