Use VoiceThread to be able to create a podcast recording discussing The New Deal. For example, discussing the WPA, CCC, and Social Security Act. Students will be expected to script a podcast episode of how the policies impacted American society. This can be interview style, role-play historical figures etc.

Students will use Google Sheets/Excel to analyze historical data on unemployment, GDP and federal spending during the time of the New Deal. Students will be expected to create charts/graphs and explain how the New Deal influenced economic recovery, using data analysis skills to support the conclusions.

Students will be expected to create on Canva, Prezi or Piktochart of a visually appealing infographic to summarize New Deal Programs. Students will use symbols, images, and text to present the effects of programs like the FDIC.

Activity: New Deal debate/role play

Students will be able to role-play different historical figures or political leaders (ex. FDR) and debate the pros and cons of the New Deal programs. The students will be responsible of researching their "characters" viewpoint, supporting arguments of "their" belief, and evidence to prove so.

Students may use Google Docs or Evernote to be able to create a digital journal as if they were living during the time of the New Deal. Students will write about the impact that the decisions being made would have on them. They will also explore the values as a person of what is important, and how they align with the New Deal programs to connect to the past in the present.

Students will use voxpop.io in the New Deal program to be able to go through an interactive way of role-playing. Roles to be assigned include Federal advisors, State reps, city workers, and small farmers. This roleplay will include many opportunities for students to discuss issues and voice opinions in an interactive way.

Students will use Garageband or Soundtrap to write or compose a song or jingle about the New Deal policies and their effects on American citizens. Students can also use historical speeches and slogans to inspire their lyrics and create musical accompaniments.

Students will research using Google Earth or ArcGIS to dig deeper into the environmental effects of the New Deal programs like the CCC or TVA. Using these tools I encourage you to view the map areas that were transformed by conservation and infrastructure efforts, then create a report or presentation discussing the long-term ecological effects.
