בשנת 1784 הוא פתח בפריז ביה"ס לעיוורים – הראשון מסוגו בעולם. שם למדו וגם עבדו ילדים ונערים עיוורים. אחד המורים היה פְרַאנְק לֶסוּאֵר (Francois Leseuer), הלא הוא אותו נער קבצן.
