Astana is a beautiful and rapidly growing city. But along with the growth of the population and transport, serious environmental challenges are also emerging.

What problems are most noticeable?

1️⃣ Air pollution:

Every day, more and more cars appear in the city. In private districts, many houses are heated with coal. This makes the air dirty and heavy to breathe. It directly affects the health of both children and adults.

2️⃣ Waste and garbage:

In Astana, there are still not enough convenient containers for separate waste collection. As a result, plastic, batteries, and glass end up in landfills, which quickly overflow and pollute soil and water.

3️⃣ The Ishim River:

The Ishim is the heart of the city. But domestic waste and sewage flow into it, which worsens water quality and harms the ecosystem.

What can be done?

🌬️To make the air cleaner — develop public transport that runs on gas and electricity, gradually move away from coal heating, and plant more trees in residential areas.

♻️ To solve the waste problem — expand the system of separate waste collection, open more collection points for plastic and batteries, and run educational campaigns in schools and neighborhoods.

🌊 To protect the Ishim River — modernize water treatment facilities, strengthen control over sewage disposal, and organize ecological clean-up events along the riverbanks.

If citizens, the government, and volunteers work together, Astana can become an example of a “green city,” where caring for nature goes hand in hand with development.
