A time before Europeans came to explore the Americas. The place now known as Utah was inhabited by indigenous people/Native Americans. It is unknown how many people lived there but estimates say several thousands of those people were spread across Utah.

2. 18th Century

People from Spain were the first to come and see this region even though no permanent settlements were made. The Europeans were scattered and not many of them.

3. 1821

When Mexico gained independence from Spain, Utah became part of Mexico as well. There was still a larger amount of indigenous people but the settlers population was getting bigger.

The mormon settlers led by Brigham Young were the first to see the Salt Lake Valley. This was a major event that led to a large scale of mormons settling here. Initially the population in the Salt Lake Valley was a few thousand but it began to grow.

At the end of the Mexican-American war, Utah was gained by the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. More and more people came to settle in Utah, but it likely didn't reach 10,00 yet.

6. 1850

Finally Utah became a territory. Now that Utah is a territory, people came more and more frequently to settle. This estimates to about 11,000 total.

A dispute between the United States government and the Mormons became known as the Utah War. Despite these conflicts and outbursts, settlers kept coming...now nearly 40,000.

The completion of the first transcontinental railroad impacted travel and trade. Since travel was getting easier and easier, Utah was home to now more than 85,000 people.

Utah had growth economically and demographically, including the establishment of national parks. Peaking over 2.2 million people, Utah was growing faster and faster.

Utah is always growing, known for it's beauty, outdoor recreation, and the famous "Greatest Snow on Earth". Utah surely has grown a lot since the Europeans first arrived, in 2022 there were 3,380,800 people.
