Terrific picture book of a child and his grandmother walking and using the bus to get to a food kitchen. Along the way, the child asks a lot of "why" questions which his grandmother patiently answers. His grandmother reminded him of the importance of the things and people that we overlook everyday and to appreciate those around us. Very encouraging book about the journey and not the destination. Loved it!

A true story of how "Winnie the Bear" became a popular children's cartoon. Based on true facts told by the great-granddaughter of the man who found Winnie and her incredibly journey from World War I to the London Zoo. This book has real pictures of Winnie, her owner, and of course Christopher Robbins in the back. This was a delightful book and a must read.

A very poignant true story of a young Sudanese boy named Garang Deng. Garang lost his family due to war in Sudan. He and thousands of "Lost Boys" traveled together for thousands of miles to find a safe haven. Eventually, they were located to the United States. Today, they are still facing challenges for educational goals but they will never forget their faith and their past. This book was beautifully illustrated and you had the sense that Garang was telling the story as if he was standing beside you.

Gertrude Ederle was the first American women swimmer to swim across the English Channel. She grew up in a time period when women were thought of not being competent to do anything except being a wife or mother. Gertrude proved the world wrong. A witch, a talking cat, an orphan, keys with boots and fairies...oh my! And what about those colorful bunnies? A must read about an orphaned girl named Emily Vole who befriends an old lady (Ms. Strings) and her talking cat (who isn't a cat at all). Soon, Emily inherited Mrs. String's house and secrets after her untimely death and the fun begins! I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

No one knows where Jellaby came from but he sure likes to eat. It's like looking at the graphics thru a purple colored lens. I would have liked to see more color than just purple.

Benny the woodpecker sees and smell something wonderful and he wants to try it but every time he tries to go into the diner, he is booted back out. Read how Benny eventually gets his waffles. Father Christmas, Santa Clause, Papa Noel...all the same for me during the winter holiday. This is the Cajun version of the story Santa Clause and instead if reindeers, he has alligators to pull his boat or pirogue. This is the first time I heard of a Cajun Papa Noel and it was a delightful story. You can even learn some Cajun words and how to pronounce them from the story.

Clancy was different from the rest of his herd. He had no white stripe around his belly like other cows. He would try different ways to put a white stripe around his belly but nothing sticks and the other cows didn't want to hang around him. His herd was skinny because they always lost the grazing rights to greener pasture to the brown cows. But this year, Clancy got bigger and fatter and won the grazing rights and now all the cows enjoy greener pasture. This was a cute book about changing and adapting to different situations.

Moina Belle Michael never stopped trying to help the brave men and women who went to war. She would exhaust herself by helping in any capacity that she could. Fantastic story of a little girl named Pinmei and her friend Yishan as they set on a fantastic journey to save Pinmei's grandmother. This story incorporated Chinese folklore into every chapter. Loved this book and the artwork throughout the book.

Story of a fifth grader named Gertie and how this year was her year to be the best student. But a new girl arrived and everything seems to go wrong. Your heart will go out to Gertie as she tries to be the best and fails time and time again. great little story.

Reverse funny story of the three bears going trick-or-treating and ended up at little Goldilocks' house. They tasted the snacks, sat in some chairs, climbed up the stairs to the bedroom...and was spooked by Goldilocks dressed as a witch and ran all the way back home.

A young boy visits his Nana who lives in the city. He does not like all the scary sights and sounds of the city and thinks that his Nana should not live there. But Nana made him a cape and takes him around the city and he actually enjoys it. Really cute book.

Arthur could not come up with a Halloween costume that someone didn't have before him, so he went outside to the trash can and found some very interesting objects. Unbeknown to Arthur, he had an original "spirit of Halloween" costume that got him lots of praises.

Your typical league of superheroes fighting against evils forces. I'm not a fan of comic books much preferring movies and miniseries like Flash, Gotham, and superman/super girl. Overall, it was a good read.

A special tribute that started it all. Fone Bone gets lost from his cousins and ended up in another land. This is the first book in the series and I liked it.

She finds a box containing colorful yarn and she knits herself and her dog a sweater but the yarn does not run out. Pretty soon, she is knitting for everyone and everything and still her yarn does not run out. Or does it? Great little read with a terrific ending.
