The three sisters learned about their family history and a little bit about their love for one another when disaster strikes.          <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>08/27/2016</strong>- <strong>Newberry Medal 2016 winner, Caldecott Honor and the Coretta Scott King Illustrator Honor. @mrschureads recommendation<br></strong>Terrific picture book of a child and his grandmother walking and using the bus to get to a food kitchen. Along the way, the child asks a lot of "why" questions which his grandmother patiently answers. His grandmother reminded him of the importance of the things and people that we overlook everyday and to appreciate those around us. Very encouraging book about the journey and not the destination. Based on true facts told by the great-granddaughter of the man who found Winnie and her incredibly journey from World War I to the London Zoo. This book has real pictures of Winnie, her owner, and of course Christopher Robbins in the back. Garang lost his family due to war in Sudan. He and thousands of "Lost Boys" traveled together for thousands of miles to find a safe haven. Eventually, they were located to the United States. Today, they are still facing challenges for educational goals but they will never forget their faith and their past. This is the Cajun version of the story Santa Clause and instead if reindeers, he has alligators to pull his boat or pirogue. This is the first time I heard of a Cajun Papa Noel and it was a delightful story. He would try different ways to put a white stripe around his belly but nothing sticks and the other cows didn't want to hang around him. His herd was skinny because they always lost the grazing rights to greener pasture to the brown cows. But this year, Clancy got bigger and fatter and won the grazing rights and now all the cows enjoy greener pasture.
