Gubar, Susan. (2019, March 21). This article is about and 10 year old boy who killed himself because of bullying. Seven was born with a birth defect and was bullied because of it. The article was written by Susan Gubar, who has the same disease as Seven. She speaks out about what happened to Seven and events she had to go through throughout her lifetime. The information in this article pertains to teaching health to elementary students because Seven was an elementary student who had felt so lost that he felt he needed to die. We do not know what our students our going through, and I believe this topic should not be sugarcoated. In the classroom, teachers can respond to questions students have about this topic, or invite a counselor in to talk to the students and let them know how important it is to speak to someone if they are feeling down.

Anderson, Melinda D. (2017, March 22). Do Healthy Lunches Improve Student Test Scores? The Atlantic. Retrieved from https://www.theatlantic.com/education/archive/2017/03/do-healthy-lunches-improve-student-test-scores/520272/

The news source I used to find this article was The Atlantic and the health topic it falls under is Healthy Eating. This article is about whether or not healthier lunches affect students test scores. They found after doing studies and research, that it does. Students test scores improved after having a healthy lunch compared to an unhealthy lunch. Hunger and lack of proper nutrients are worries for low-income students. The article stated, "Without good food, students are just stressed at school, and then still stress about being expected to perform well. Having healthy school meals is really related to how the school system is serving students that don't have [much access and availability] to resources.” The information in this article pertains to teaching health to elementary students because it is important for these students to get proper nutrients everyday to be fueled and not grow hungry during work time. In the classroom, teachers can teach the students about healthy and unhealthy food and their effects on the body. They can teach them what food gives you energy and why the body needs healthy food.

Retrieved from https://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/experts-warn-teaching-phrase-stranger-danger/story?id=46427626

The news source I used to find this article was ABC News and the topic it falls under is Intentional Injury and Violence. The article is about why parents should not teach their children the term 'stranger danger' because in an emergency situation, a child may need to reach out to a stranger for help. There was a study done about who the child would go to if they lost their parents in the supermarket. Most children were hesitant to go up to anyone, but they said they would feel most comfortable going up to a store clerk, mother with children, or a security guard. The information in this article pertains to teaching health to elementary students because it is important for students to understand when there is danger and what they should do in an emergency situation. In the classroom, the teacher could role play situations to students and help them choose the safe answer and teach them what they should do if an unexpected emergency situation happens to them.
