Sometimes when I walk home from school I wonder how many animals in the world got killed illegally for money. This is a crime called poaching, it mostly happens in Africa and Asia. These are some of my first questions about pouching:

1. What animal gets poached the most? Answer: Personally I find this weird. Wouldn't you think it would be a rhino or a elephant. No, its the pangolin. I didn't know much about this animal at first, but it turns out it is a cousin of an anteater and sloth. It kind of looks like an armadillo (see bottom for a picture). It is killed for a traditional Chinese medicine.

2. How much does a rhino horn cost? Answer: $60,000 per pound.
It is thought to cure hangovers, fever, and even cancer ( see chart below).

3. Is one animals horns, scales, etc. worth more than another? Answer: Yes, elephants tusks are worth around $1,500 American dollars, while the rhinos tusks are worth around $60,000 dollars!

Before I picked this topic I knew very little about animal abuse. When I started researching I found out its much more. It means the crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, usually a tame one, beyond necessity for normal discipline. It can include neglect that is so monstrous that the animal has suffered, died or been put in imminent danger of death (credit to the free dictionary). There are several organizations that are perceived as helping animals that are actually just trying to make profit. A very well known company who breeds animals for profit is in this presentation (see column Puppy Mills).

I have a lot of experience with farming. My great uncle is a rancher, but he didn't do farming abuse. Farming abuse is when you overcrowd an area with animals and don't meet their needs in order to maximize profit (see bottom for a picture of what it looks like).
These are some first questions I thought about farming abuse:

1. Do the farmers that do this feed the animals enough? Answer: No, in fact some farmers only feed them once a week.

2. Why do people overcrowd animals? Answer: Mostly for money, but sometimes for there own food.

3. Why do farmers take baby pigs away from there mothers? Answer: the piglet can get sick when its with its mother because the mother could carry diseases that can kill the baby pig. They don't want the animal to get sick or the cant sell the baby pigs.

When I came upon the idea that Puppy Mills are bad I was confused at first. I thought Puppy Mills are good and helped animals get homes. I did some further research and figured out that this company does it mostly for profit they don't care much for the animals in their custody. These are my first questions about Puppy Mills.

1.Question: Are Puppy Mills an example of animal cruelty. Answer: Yes, in Puppy Mills the animals are kept in small, filthy cages (see picture at bottom). According to the animal cruelty laws of Ohio confining a pet without supplying it with enough good food and water, as well as shelter from the elements, if it’s reasonable to expect that the animal would suffer as a result, is illegal (credit to Ohio law).

2. Question: Are the animals at Puppy Mills bred for profit? Answer: Yes, Puppy Mills does not care for these animals. They are again kept in small, filthy cages.

3. Question: Why is Puppy Mills bad? Answer : Puppy Mils is bad because they do not supply the animals with enough food. Also, Puppy Mills barely cleans the animals cages. So they are filled with waste.

PETA is good and bad so it kind of averages out. Most of the bad stuff they did was in Virginia. This fact below I am adding here because it didn't fit in any of the questions: In Virginia a girl was sitting on her porch with her dog and got distracted. Meanwhile two PETA agents took Maya ( the pet chihuahua). They said "we thought it was a stray. They returned a day later with news the dog died. This clouds up all the good PETA has did in their time.
These were my first questions:

1.Question: Does PETA purposely kill animals? Answer: Yes, but only if the animal is to old or sick to go on. Otherwise if the animal is not old or sick they try to give them homes.

2.Question: How many animals does PETA euthanize in a year? Answer: About 1,410 dogs and cats every year. That's so many dogs and cats you could sell all of them for $57,000.

3. Question: Is PETA bad? Answer: No, although they kill animals to put them out of there misery, they are overall are a good organization. Because they try to get lots of animals homes and help them if their sickness is minor.
