After the fall of the Czar and the unpopular agreement by Alexander Kerensky to stay in World War I, Russia was thick with different soviets- local councils consisting of workers, peasants, and soldiers. The make-shift government was liked by few and Russia was ready for a revolt. When Lenin returned to Russia, he was supported by many- the Bolsheviks. Without warning, armed factory workers who called themselves the Bolshevik Red Guards, took over government officials and arrested the leaders of the provisional government. The Bolsheviks were now in control of Russia. Those who opposed the communist ways of the Bolsheviks called themselves the White army, and prepared themselves to fight the Red in the Russian Civil War.

**this document (Russian Revolution Causes) was used

The March Revolution resulted in no choice for Nicholas. It resulted in a full revolt. He was forced to step down from his position. This ended the the three-century czarist rule in Russia and was the end of an Era. This was a huge step for the Russian people as they now had the ability to control their own future as a country, when in the past they had no say in anything political.

In March 1917, the Russians were angrier than ever. They had no say in any government, and the present bread and fuel shortage sparked a revolt. Women textile workers in Petrograd led a city-wide strike. During the next week, this turned into a riot. Even the guards ordered to shoot the protesters had turned against the Czar and sided with them. "Down with the autocracy," and "Down with the war" could be heard throughout the entire country. The country was somewhat united in their ideas of revolution.

In 1914, Nicholas II made the decision to bring Russia into WWI. The entire country knew they were not prepared to handle the economic costs of the war. The was against Japan showed them how underdeveloped their military was. Against the hated German army, their weak generals, insufficient machinery and poorly equipped troops were no match. Before a year of their involvement in the war, more than 4 million Russian Soldiers had been killed, taken prisoner, or wounded. When Nicholas moved his headquarters to the war front, he left his wife behind to lead the government. She fell under the influence of a man names Rasputin, whom claimed he had magical powers and was able to ease the constant pain her son Alexis was in. Alexis suffered from hemophilia and was in pain always. To show her thanks for Rasputin, Czarina Alexandra allowed him to make key political decisions, which he abused by opposing reform measures and putting his friends at high government positions. On the war front the Russian soldier's morals were low, and back home food and fuel was at a great shortage. The war was just the biggest problem stacked on each of the others, with no sign of reformation. No one wanted the war in the first place, and they all wondered when they would be listened to.

The struggle for power in Russia led many peasants striving to be heard. The idea to create Dumas was brought upon Nicholas II, as the struggle for order was seen throughout the country. The idea was that Nicholas would still have his constitutional monarch ruling, but the voices of the people would be able to be heard through these Dumas. They would have the real power, as they were democratically elected. Naturally, Nicholas opposed anything that could abolish any of his power. He quickly diminished these Dumas, which angered the people who finally thought their voices were going to be heard. War was hot in their minds because they felt that they were not being heard.
*** "Cause One: Nicholas II, Czar of Russia" was used

Nicholas was entering a Russian generation desperate for change, with little experience. He was neither fit not ready to take over as leader of the country. His wife, a German-born princess was not trusted by the Russian people. He did not take into account the wants of any of his citizens. He resisted any signs of reform and sought to keep the autocratic government.
