What is the most abundant kind of taste buds?
2 Does the most abundant kind differ between people?

Researchers have come to believe that COVID-19 doesn’t directly affect people’s sense of taste. Since the olfactory system (smell) has such a big influence on peoples taste it affects the the taste and can make it more bland. As of right now they don’t think that covid affects the olfactory sensory neurons instead they affect the supporting cells which is why the loss of smell and taste due to covid is shorter then with other viruses.

The sensory nerve that is responsible for your sense of taste and smell is called the olfactory nerve. COVID-19 does not directly affect the olfactory nerve. Rather, it affects the support cells that surround the olfactory nerve. When the support cells are not working, it can block the olfactory nerve's signals from reaching the brain. This causes loss of taste and smell.

Elizabeth Margetts

Can eating too much spicy food kill your tastebuds or is it a myth?

COVID-19 causes inability to taste and smell
The coronavirus affects supporting cells of the olfactory nerve, this nerve enables the the sense of smell. As the supporting cells aren’t working properly, it blocks the olfactory nerve’s signals from getting to the brain, causing ineffectiveness in smell. Most of what we taste originates from what we smell, loss of smells causes loss of taste.
