  • Find and replace all “to be” verbs: is, are, was, were, being, becoming 
  • Replace them with strong action verbs. 
  • Example with “to be” verb: The dancer was leaping around the stage. 
  • Example without “to be: verb: The dancer leapt across the stage. 
  • Go through your poem and replace all "to be" verbs with strong action verbs! 
  • Find powerful verbs on your own, or start with this list!
