At the start of 10th grade, I was nervous but excited. I didn’t know what to expect from new classes or teachers, and I worried about balancing everything. Over time, I became more confident in managing my schedule and speaking up in class. I learned how to study more effectively and how to ask for help when I needed it. Now, I feel more prepared for what’s ahead. I’ve grown more independent and more willing to take on challenges. This school year taught me that growth takes time, and that’s okay.

A Project You're Proud Of

One of my proudest moments was a science fair project on renewable energy. I built a small solar-powered water filtration system and explained how it could be used in rural areas. It was challenging but rewarding, and I had to do a lot of research and troubleshooting. Presenting it to my class was nerve-wracking, but I felt proud when I saw people’s reactions. I even got a shout-out from my teacher for my innovation. This project helped me realize how passionate I am about environmental science.

Book or Text That Impacted You

Reading The Book Thief by Markus Zusak left a deep impression on me. The narration by Death gave the story a unique voice, and Liesel’s journey through war, loss, and resilience was powerful. The quote, ‘I am haunted by humans,’ really stuck with me it made me think about both the beauty and the cruelty in people. This book changed the way I look at history and how stories are told. It also showed me the importance of words and how they can be used to hurt or heal.

A Personal or Academic Challenge

Biology was one of the most difficult subjects for me this year. At first, I struggled to understand complex topics like cellular respiration and genetics—they felt overwhelming and full of confusing vocabulary. I often left class feeling frustrated and unsure. But I started using diagrams, videos, and online study tools to help me visualize the processes. I also began studying in small groups, which made a big difference. Slowly, things started to make more sense, and my test scores improved. This experience taught me that understanding comes with effort and the right strategies. Now, biology is one of my favorite subjects, and I’m proud of how far I’ve come.

Creative Expression

“N 2 Deep” by Drake really stood out to me this year because of its emotional depth and raw honesty. The contrast between the smooth, reflective beginning and the intense second half made me think about how relationships, and even life can shift unexpectedly. One line that stuck with me is: “Hard to go back to the basics / I used to be somebody’s favorite.”
It reminded me how people change and how sometimes we lose parts of ourselves trying to keep others close. This song helped me process some of my own thoughts about loyalty, identity, and emotional vulnerability. It inspired me to start writing more and be real with myself, even when it’s uncomfortable.

Hopes for Junior Year and Beyond

I want to challenge myself with harder classes and start thinking more seriously about college and my future goals. But I also want to enjoy the moment and not let stress take over. I’ve learned a lot about balance this year, and I plan to carry that with me. One quote that reflects my mindset is from J. Cole: “There’s beauty in the struggle.” It reminds me to embrace the process, not just the outcome. I’m ready to level up, even if it means making mistakes along the way.
