The esophagus is a tube that transfers food and liquids from your throat to your stomach.2. Whenever you feel like your food won’t go down, its because the food is clogging the esophagus.3. If you eat a lot of fibers, it will reduce the chance of you getting problems in your esophagus.4. There is a muscle above your esophagus called the upper esophagus sphincter. When the brain gives the signal to the sphincter that food or liquid is coming, it relaxes. The sphincter opens up so the food can easily flow down to the esophagus.5. There is also a lower esophagus sphincter. It does the same exact thing, but the food and liquids flow into the stomach.6. The esophagus can be highly damaged by acid reflux. Acid reflux is when the lower esophagus sphincter opens when it’s not supposed to.
