Adab in Seeking Knowledge

In Islam, Muslim are required to gain knowledge because 'Ilmu is light for our heart. While gaining knowledge, we need to follow the Adab that Prophet Muhammad SAW thought us because he is a divine source. Therefore, we need to have good intention if we want to study. Then, we need to read dua before studying. During learning, we need to respect our teachers and lecturers. After learning something new, we need to do revision and do repeated practise. So, the knowledge will forever remain in our heart and mind.

Hadith Jibril

"Islam is that you should testify that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, that you should perform salah, pay the Zakah, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House, if you are able to do so."

These are the five pillars of Islam which is Syahadah, perform Salah five times per day, Sawm in the month of Ramadan, pay for Zakah and perform Hajj when you have the ability to do so.

"Iman is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in qadar (fate), both in its good and in its evil aspects."

In Islam, there are six pillars of Iman which are belief in the oneness of Allah SWT, belief in His Angels, belief in the Holy Books, belief in His Messengers, belief in the Last Day and belief in Qada' and Qadr.

"Ihsan is that you should serve Allah as though you could see Him, for though you cannot see Him yet (know that) He sees you."

As a faithful Muslim, we need to worship Allah because Allah is the only God that is worthy to be worshipped. Allah is the one who cretaes human being and nature. Therefore, He has the absolute power upon us.

Pillars of Iman (Part 1)

For this week, we discuss about 3 pillars of Iman which are Belief in The Oneness of Allah, Belief in Angels and Belief in Holy Books.

First of all, what is the meaning of belief in Allah? Belief in Allah means we as Muslims submit ourself fully to Allah. Allah has the supreme power upon us, we need to worship Him and never associate Him with something else. We need to perform Salah five times per day as an action that shows our indebtedness to Allah.

Next, belief in Angels refers to our trust in Malaikat. For example, Allah sent angels to record our deed in this world. Therefore, before we do something bad, we must believe that angels always know what we do eventhough no one else see. By doing this, we can prevent ourselves from doing sin.

Last but not least, we must belief in Kitab or Holy Books. These Kitabs are a divine source because it came from Allah SWT and brought by Prophet SAW. For example, we use Al-Quran as our guideline in life to gain Allah's redha. Muslim who always read Al-Quran and doing deeds based on it will gain many rewards from Allah SWT. Therefore, we must befriend with Al-Quran

Pillars of Iman (Part 2)

In week 4, we revise about the other three pillars of Iman which are Belief in Messengers, The Last Day and Qada' Qadr.

The first one is Belief in Messengers or Rusul. We need to respect and acknowledge their history and appreciate their sacrifices for Muslim. Therefore, Muslim will be more grateful and happy.

The next one is Belief in The Last Day. As a Muslim, we know that this world we lived in is not permanent. Therefore, Muslim must do good deeds to gain more rewards from Allah SWT and His pleasure.

Last but not least, Belief in Qada' and Qadr. Allah SWT has already set everything for human being. Therefore, we just need to believe Allah and always be positive about out life.

To conclude, six pillars of Iman are essentials in Muslim's life. We need to always practice these deeds to be a better Muslim.

Concept of Ihsan

Muslim needs to perform 'Ibadah to gain Allah's S.W.T pleasure. Therefore, we need to belief in Allah S.W.T by performing 'Ibadah. Not only that, we also need to practice Ihsan in our daily life. For example, an employer needs to do their responsibilities and an employee needs to give his all out to his works.

Move onto the next topic, the truth behind the judgement day. No one know when the hour will come which means the last day. The minor signs of Qiyamah are women will outnumber men, eventually fifty women to each man (Bukhari & Muslim), people will believe in astrology (in the stars), and good deeds will decrease (Bukhari).

To conclude, Muslim needs to prepare himself to go trough the last day. We can not waste our times by doing useless things.

Steps to Attain Khusyu’ in Prayer

The following are several steps that could help someone to attain khusyu’ in prayer.

First: Remembering Death

Remembering death helps someone in attaining khusyu’ in his prayer.

Second: Does Not Perform the Prayer Hurriedly of Hastily

Among the ways to attain khusyu’ in prayer is to perform it calmly. The act of hurriedly or hastily performing prayer, without toma’ninah (calmness) in ruku’ and sujud is prohibited by the Prophet PBUH.

Third: Understanding the Meaning of the Verses Recited During Prayer

Understanding the meaning of the verses recited during prayer helps someone in attaining khusyu’ in his prayer. The reason is, a prayer is an act of a servant facing his Rabb, Allah SWT. Hence, he should understand everything that he recited, for the verses of the Quran are the words of Allah (kalamullah).
