I was beyond excited to take this course because I really wanted to learn some helpful tips on how to mentor the writing process for my future students. I wasn't sure what to expect with this class as I felt that each teacher had their own brand of acceptable writing; one paper would get an A in one class and the same paper would get only a B- in another. I was mainly concerned how to make writing enjoyable and connected to the world, so I had hoped that this class would give me some good pointers.

This was actually my first online course, so I wasn't really sure how to engage in discussion at first. The Q & A's intimidated me at first, and I fully expected all of our posts to go mainly unnoticed. However, not only did I feel more comfortable to create and facilitate a discussion online, but I felt that the way I communicated with others changed as well. I learned to always start with praise and engagement of other's posts before asking a question or suggestion.

One topic that truly interested me and stood out to me the most would have to be teaching writing to English Language Learners. I just became so excited to start formatting lessons to include ELLs in mainstream English classrooms, it was just a topic that I became very passionate about. I especially loved the article by Fu Danling that showed us how we could fully incorporate our ELLs. It made me truly cognizant of what I could do for my students!

Because I became so passionate about including ELLs into mainstream English classrooms, I chose it as the topic of my Informative Blog. I titled it "I’m here! ¡Estoy aquí! Je suis là! أنا هنا: English Language Learners in an ELA Classroom," and my mission was to demonstrate easy but meaningful techniques in which the everyday teacher could utilize these methods to include ELLs in their classroom.

I'm going to use Universal Design for my ELLs where I can start providing decoding techniques that all students could use in the classroom when they come across a word they don't know. I will address the social and cultural needs of my ELL students and provide a welcoming environment for them. And I will definitely try my hardest to motivate my ELL students every day to afford them the best opportunities to learn both English and my content.
