Alicia here. This is a great link that shows how physics plays a role in soccer! Gives a brief intro to Newton's law and explains how where you kick the ball impacts the movement/direction of the ball. Maybe simple physics equations could be introduced to calculate the trajectory of the ball. Students could calculate the ideal vs. the real trajectory by doing experimentation, for example. The activity could be designed to help students develop many STEM skills including observation, questioning, investigation, experimentation, data collection, etc. And it is a great way to continue learning at home with family. Students could collect data from "kicking experiments" done at home with friends and family. They could collect data using their smart phones too; kids could download the Adidas Snapshot App to calculate the speed, distance and angle of shots. They could work in teams and share their data points using Google sheets or some online tool and create a data visualization that allows everyone to see the data and discover trends.
