It is a no-brainer that the pandemic has affected the country and many Filipinos have endured devastating situations. There was a decline in the economy, an increased unemployment rate, and immense grief for lost loved ones. 

At this point in time where it seems like hopelessness is the only thing we can feel in the present moment, or giving in to the struggles is the only option left for us; what we need is someone to approach to seek help and comfort.

Having someone who is compassionate and patient enough to listen to their sorrows and grief makes them feel better. Physical contact may still be limited, however, there are still numerous ways to express compassion toward others. Aside from attending to the bodily needs of a person, we also have to consider their spiritual needs as well.

    In the Scriptures, it is evident that Jesus spends time mostly with the sick and marginalized. He demonstrates a special devotion for those who need it most. Catholic social doctrine
    principled the Choice for the Vulnerable and Poor, which inspires us to emulate Christ's love for the underprivileged by attempting to build a society where the demands of the underprivileged are always given priority. It encourages us to enhance the entire community by helping those who are in need and are at the most risk.

Therefore and most probably, the easiest way that one can think of to solve this long-extant problem is through equally distributing the resources among their users. However, that may not be totally easy as long as there is greed, which is another root of the said problem. Greed is said to be caused by a belief that a person can have what he or she wants through domination, power, and full control. With this, we may find eliminating poverty once and for all harder for it is also the same thing with its root. The said partisan credence is usually etched in some people's minds so as mentioned, it is not something that can be considered as a short-term problem; perhaps, it might be even something that is permanent in this world. 

    What we can do to somehow shed light in this dark matter is to learn about acceptance. We have to accept and be genuinely content with what we have so that others can also enjoy the privilege that we are enjoying. This acceptance also includes being grateful for the things that are currently on our hands. Moreover, we need to realize that acquiring material things is just a short-lived euphoria and it won't bring genuine and everlasting happiness. With these two, people can develop a sense of charity or willingness to give.
     
    As a wise man once said, "A man's true wealth is the good he does in this world." This statement can also be reinforced by a bible verse that says, "So let each one give as he pleases in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver."
