From the medical perspective, many believe that regenerative medicine may be the future of medicine. The U.S. Stem Cell Incorporation believes that by using effective technologies they may be able to treat different types of diseases and injuries. This will positively change the natural history of diseases and ultimately lessen the amount of individuals affected.

Although stem cell research can lead to lifesaving treatments in replace of surgeries, this requires the destruction of embryos, which is the major reason why most individuals are against putting their tax dollars towards this research. Controversies arise if the embryo is human and whether the embryo has legal and moral rights. This brings religion into play. It has been shown that 68% of Americans support the embryonic stem cell research and continued research suggests that embryonic stem cells are not that only viable source for stem cells.

Timothy Ray Brown was diagnosed with HIV and acute myeloid leukemia. His doctors believed the best medical decision would be to use radiation and chemotherapy to wipe out his immune system and then rebuild it with another persons donated stem cells. With only two stem cell transplants, he was cured of both of his diseases, like a miracle. Timothy is known as the “berlin patients” as he is the first person to ever be cured of HIV.
