There are celebrations in Peru marking certain dates where something impactful has happened. One of these celebrations takes place in October to mark the heroism of the Peruvian navy in the Battle of Angamos. Military and civil parades are held across Peru to honor Admiral Miguel Grau and his role in the Battle of Angamos. Another celebration held for Santa Rosa De Lima this holiday is celebrated after a girl who was very beautiful but to scare away men disfigured her face. She did this so that she could continue praying as much as possible. This was inspiring to many people. When she was 20 she joined the third order of St. Dominic still doing her fasting and extreme prayer. She eventually passed but, they celebrate her on Wednesday August 30th for her dedication to prayer.
