"When the council of the Home questioned us, we looked upon the faces of the council, but there was no curiosity in those faces, and no anger, and no mercy. So when the oldest of them asked us: "Where have you been?" we thought of our glass box and of our light and we forgot all else. And we answered: "We will not tell you."... "Take our brother Equality 7-2521 to the Palace of Corrective Detention. Lash them until they tell.'(Rand 63-64)"

This quote is important to me because He is got punished for going out and accidentally inventing something. The Council of the Scholars feel like they have to know everything about every bodies lives. The people in this society should be allowed to do some other things other than work. This quote connects to me and my life because sometimes my parents have to know every single little thing that I am doing. Even though Equality 7-2521 doesn't really have parents in his society he still has to tell the council of scholars almost everything that he does.

"We placed our glass box upon the table before them.... And we stood still, our eyes upon the wire. And slowly, and slowly as a flush of blood, a red flame trembled in the wire. Then the wire glowed. But terror struck the men of the council. (Rand 70)

This quote makes me think about why were they so scared about this new invention. I know that they say they say that the candle was their greatest invention, but this new light could help their society out a lot. This quote is important to everyone because we use Equality's invention today to light up the dark, schools, buildings, etc.
