A common eraser is used to take away or delete any unwanted marks made on paper. In 1752, the french academy of sciences made a suggestion to use a substance that was essential vegetable gum that came from trees in south africa to erase blank marks. In 1770, they renamed the gum as rubber because it was used to rub marks away.

In 1770 Joseph Priestly and Edward Nairne stumbled upon rubber. They changed the eraser from moist bread. In the 1800 Charles GOodyear expanded on josephs and edwards ideas by making the eraser last longer by making it water and winter proof. In 1858, Hymen Lipman was the first to attach a eraser to the end of the pencil , making it more efficient.

The Eraser economically made money for the country because it has become a household item. In schools, office buildings and even at grocery stores are bought everyday making our economy more efficient due to the fact that we don't have to go through the hassle of throwing away any work we've done but instead just rubbing it away with erasers. This also helps save money for our economy because of the fact that were not wasting money on producing multiple papers but instead we can reuse the ones we already have by simply erasing what you dont want on it.
Socially, erasers made writing and drawing more appealing to those who did it .
Politically, erasers are used during war meetings to draw out plans and blue prints and to erase any mistake that's being made.
Culturally the eraser has helped those generations in front of us, document there stories because in the past there was only ink and ink can mess up and fade away into something else but with the eraser , you can clearly read someone elses story or documented language.

The improvements made to the erasers today are vastly different from back then. Today erasers come in different shapes and sizes and colors and shapes. The common erasers used today usually come in block form (pink or white most times) or they come on a the back of a wooden or mechanical pencil. Erasers also come in different textures. There are hard ones and soft ones even some that are electric.
