         <title>The sustaining model I am choosing to comment on is the flipped classroom. I feel the pros are: a) Students complete HW in the class. Parents do not have to fight with the students while completing the HW or sometimes parents ended up flustered. b) Reverse instruction - the teacher is not delivering lesson in a traditional way (doing all the talking all the time); instead he/she interacts more with the student. c) Students come to class to put into practice what was learned. Regarding the cons: a) videotaping. I am aware we are in modern times, but I do struggle with the camera. Also, I am shy when it comes to be in front of the camera. We had an assignment once where our Principal came to the classroom and set camera to tape us teaching. Afterwards, we had to watch ourselves teaching and boy oh boy...I cringed at parts thinking how I torture my students with my teaching style. It was an eye opener and humbling experience. b) Not sure if all the students will watch the videos assigned at home. Some kids are not very highly motivated. </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Sustaining Model: Stations.<br>Pro: <br>*It can help address 2-3 specific skill sets in a class period.<br>*It can create movement and positive inertia. <br>*It can be used to follow up on informal or formal assessment information to address specific skill sets.<br>Con:<br>*Student absences could undermine the effectiveness.<br>*Some students may have mastery of all the skills at each stations.<br>*It may be hard to give effective time to three stations with our class period length.  </div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>I love the idea of a flipped classroom. Here are my pros and cons:<br><br>Pros:<br>1. More time for in-class discussions. My favorite way to teach literature!<br>2. More time for one-on-one teacher student interaction.<br>3. Time to delve in-depth on projects in a collaborative environment.&nbsp;<br><br>Funny how these are all related to time.<br><br>Cons:<br>1. The students may not do the work at home. Especially in a community where the students play a lot of sports and are busy every evening.<br>2. Students will be self-paced. . . this is negative only in that its nice to keep students on the same page when reading a novel. I use audio books for this purpose in class.<br>3. Students may not have access to technology at home.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>I think the pros of a flipped model are:<br>1. Less time wasted on whole group instruction where student engagement goes down and I have to stop to address misbehavior<br>2. Time to work with students individually and really get to know their needs/be able to address them in the "now".&nbsp;<br>3. More accountability for students to actually "do" the work. (no opting out as with homework)<br>4. Creates a better/less stressful home life for parents who don't have to nag students to "do their homework".&nbsp;<br><br>I think the cons are:<br>1. Equitable access-I know I have students who do not have access to internet/computers/tablets at home.&nbsp;<br>2. Time to film lessons outside of regular school day.&nbsp;<br>3. Lack of ability to back and forth during whole group lesson. Also, perhaps less student discussion as well?<br>4. Some students and parents may not be on board with this style of teaching.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Pros:<br>Basic, direct instruction can take place outside of the classroom, leaving more time for meaningful engagement with students IN the classroom.<br>Students actually dig seeing/hearing their teacher in a video or other online format (screencast, pencast or whatever).<br>Screen casts/videos can be customized to meet needs of individual classes or even students (for example, if we were in the middle of a great discussion as class ends, I can make a quick screen cast for students to watch at home to prepare them to continue or expand that discussion the next day.<br>Watching these screencasts/videos can take the place of traditional homework<br>Screencasts and pencasts are relatively easy tech to use (if you have the right tech to begin with ...)<br>When the right tech is available, STUDENTS can participate in making the video/screencast/pencast for viewing.<br>Cons:<br>Teachers have to be selective in what they choose to teach via a video/screencast/pencast<br>Students not viewing the material for whatever reason ...&nbsp; (although if it's tailored and created by the teacher or even better by their classmates, this is less likely)<br>Tech issues obviously<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This is Jessica Shibata. I'm very curious about the flipped classroom.<br>Pros: I love the idea of students doing work at home and getting help on the actual content at school. <br>Cons: the entire school would need to switch to this model for it to work. I think it would take an entire culture change for parents and students to get on board. What if a student cannot or doesn't do the work? What if access to tech is limited? What if they have very little time in the evening after school activities?<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The pros of the flipped classroom is that as a teacher you can sped your class time with more one to one instruction with the students that need more help. It also allows students to review the instruction as many times as they need. So even if the teacher is busy with another student they can access the video in class to see if review the instruction can answer their own question. The cons that I see are first availability to technology and internet.   Flipped classroom only works if all students have a device and internet that they can use at home or outside of school.  Another con that they never talk about is the  time it takes to create the lessons for students to watch.  Granted once the flipped lesson is created it should be good for sometime.  However to 🤬 your class for eery lesson is a big time commitment.  Is the school going to provide that time and provide the technical assistants to make the videos meaningful and engaging.  <br><br></div>]]></description>
