<title>HPV is the most common STI, affecting 79 million people in the US. It is most commonly transmitted by having unprotected sex with an infected partner but can be spread by non-sexual ways such as sharing needles with an infected person or transmission from mother to fetus. </title>

<title>Most people with HPV will not have any symptoms. In most cases your body&#39;s immune system defeats an HPV infection before it creates warts. When warts to appear, they vary in appearance depending on which type of HPV is involved. (genital warts, common warts, plantar warts, and flat warts) Itching, burning, or tenderness in the genital area can occur, but it is not common. Symptoms can appear years after being infected, making it difficult to determine when the infection first occurred. </title>

<title>There are no tests to determine a person&#39;s HPV &quot;status&quot;, nor is there a test to determine if a person has an HPV infection in their throat or mouth. An HPV infection is typically diagnosed if the infected person develops warts, if a Pap smear test comes back abnormal, or if more serious problems caused by HPV develops such as cancer. </title>

<title>Even if you do not have symptoms regularly, the physical and hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy may result in an HPV flare-up. These flare-ups may result in the development of numerous large warts that can increase the risk factor of vaginal delivery. If the HPV symptoms are problematic, your doctor may suggest a C-Section. </title>

<title>Although it is rare, a baby may contract HPV while passing through the birth canal. The newborn&#39;s immune system will typically clear its body from infection without any treatment. If the immune system does not take care of the virus, the newborn can develop neonatal conjunctivitis or laryngeal papillomatosis. </title>

<title>HPV typically goes away by itself within two years and does not cause any health problems. If the immune system does not eliminate the HPV virus, it can cause cancer. HPV is thought to be responsible for more than 90% of anal and cervical cancers, 70% of vaginal and vulva cancers, 60% of penile cancers, and 60% of oropharynx cancers. </title>
