My current knowledge in how the stock market is a lot better than when I started this Senior Summit project but I certainly have not gained a degree in economics because of it. This particular Senior Summit has not had too many problems during my research but the future may hold potential problems that I am currently unaware of. This project has gifted me with a lot of knowledge with how the stock market was formed, how it functions, how it helps the common American and how people can use the stock market to benefit themselves and their families throughout their daily lives. I have learned the differences between stocks and bonds along with how to purchase stock in a certain company or how to join in with a group of people to buy stock together or gift my money to a company for a small fee that will go onto hopefully improve my income and turn say $100 into $200 or $300 or any amount of passive income that you can earn from the stock market.

Recently I’ve been looking at how the stock market tends to change the general public and their overall well being. Over the last month I’ve discovered that throughout the stock market’s history it has been used as a stepping stone for the general population to create popular businesses that have never been seen before by using a time of crisis to grow and promote their business idea or company and gaining a lot of early start up capital that may have not been available to the person in question if they never decided to utilize the market to their own advantage. I’ve continued to look at various articles that detail the pros and cons of using the stock market along with the inherent risk that it provides to those who choose to invest their money into it or those who use it to rely on start up funds for a new (hopefully) profitable business. One discovery that is rather surprising to me is that if people can time their entry into the stock market at the most opportune time then they can at least slightly replicate movies such as “The Wolf on Wallstreet” in a few ways.

I’ve been using my family as recent research tools into their experiences with the stock market and how well it turned out for them. Although there does seem to be a lack of experience within my family my dad did share his experience with me as he has used the stock market to gain a small amount of passive income and increase his overall capital which he has used to save in a bank account for emergencies or other reasons. My father has also used the stock market to create his own company which he named after three kids (Terandell / Terrence, Amanda, Mitchell) when he was in his late thirties and early forties. The stock market provided a stable source of income for my family and although it wasn’t comparable to Bill Gates it was certainly enough to improve one’s standard of living which seems to be the case for most common Americans who invest in the stock market, of course there were bumps in the road such as the last recession which made the stock market unprofitable to those who had recently invested within it.

As my research is coming to a close I’ve certainly learned a lot more than I’d like to admit over the last six-ish months about the stock market, how it benefits people, and it’s history. Recently I’ve been overviewing my past research and putting it all together into one big compilation of information on the stock market. Recent Geo-political events completely turned the idea of my research into the stock market on it’s head as I am “fortunate” enough to be able to look back on previous altercations with the stock market such as the “great recession” in the late 2000s and early 2010s along with even data as far back as 1929 with the great depression and the similarities those two events seem to have on our current situation. Recently I’ve taken a slight detour in my research and learned about how start up companies like amazon used the stock market to their advantage in times of crisis and how it can affect working class people.
