He later got his leg amputated. He then got a prosthetic leg which he trained every day with to sharpen his skills. While being treated at the Hospital he saw many people like him suffering from cancer he was overwhelmed by this seeing the majority of them were children. His impact was long lasting due to the fact that even today schools do events like a Terry Fox run where students do a short run and try to get every student to donate at least a loonie or toonie. Many people were affected by this positively since now more money is being generated for cancer research which helps those who deal with cancer.
