Before they would get on the bus there would be a very long number of people against the fence.

The stall was about ten by twenty feet and empty except for three folded army cots lying on the floor. Dust, dirt, and wood shavings covered the linoleum that had been laid over manure covered boards, the smell of horses hung in the air, and the whitened corpses of many insects still clung to the hastily whitewashed walls"

After, not being able to find their "apartment" they had the help from people that already have arrived a couple nights before. As, they reached to their shelter it wasn't what they expected.

Soon Yoshiko and his family found themselves very hungry. They attempted to get food only to find out they had to wait in a very long line. As they reached inside the mess hall they were served sausages and a boiled potato.

There was a huge lack of restrooms and washrooms for everybody. It would have no curtains and or doors. No privacy at all. People would bring newspapers to cover their faces.

Uncida and his family started settling in by getting furniture and it would go outside counting as a "living room". Then, they got a telegram from their father saying that he is coming soon to join the rest of the family.
