Odysseus is loyal because the whole time he was gone he stayed loyal to Penelope and didn't cheat "we should know how to locate good men among our hands the loyal and respectful" (Homer 1160-1162). Another example of Odysseus being intelligent is by knowing to hide on the sheep to escape Polyphemus "I took
the woolliest ram, the choicest of the flock, and hung myself under his kinky belly, pulled up tight, with fingers twisted deep in sheepskin ringlets for an iron grip. So, breathing hard, we waited until morning" (Homer 382-384).
