Before activities, I review what "good citizenship" looks like during the activity.

For check-out time, I also project a timer so students can see how long they have to browse (5-7 minutes depending on behavior).

Seat Spots

These dots mark the spots where students are to sit during read alouds in the open space. It provides a space for each student.

These shelf labels were the ones that I used to mark the nonfiction section to make finding books easier for students.

Ending Class

At the conclusion of the class, I have students stand near their chair and push it under the table. Then I dismiss students using the numbered spaces on the table. This corresponds with the number on the rainbow line at the door. Everyone has a space to walk directly to, no pushing, arguing, or running is necessary as they all have a space to go.

Beginning of Class

At the beginning of class, I have students come in and stand on the rainbow line to set the tone for the lesson, go over objectives for the day, and check in books. Students hold their books with barcodes facing out so I can bring my Chromebook and scanner and check in the books. Then I dismiss to the table space or carpet area where we begin our lesson.

I just started to do check-out at the beginning of class and only allowing students who are able, to go and book shop. I scan down the printed classroom barcode list, and if the student has their books returned they are called to book shop. The other students do an activity at the table while waiting.
