However, everything changed when I got admitted to Universidad Nacional. Studying English Philology was no longer one of my wildest dreams. It was my reality and I couldn’t believe it until I found myself listening to my first class: Oral Communication I. Through that subject I learned an important life lesson: I’m not the only one that is good at English. There are people who are also passionate about the major and have incredible skills understanding and speaking the language just like me.

I had to wake up and get off that fluffy cloud of fantasy because there are a lot of people out there who can teach me and guide me as well. I’m not “The Best” as I thought at school clueless, or in those English courses I once took. Maybe I felt like “The Queen” there, but right now I see myself more like an apprentice, another aspirant of queen who is giving the best of her.

But, I’m not working alone to “win the crown”. My partners and friends are also part of my process. I learned that lesson last semester in Written Communication IV; recognizing my partners’ journeys, their successes and their pains while learning English is more valuable than comprehending some empty grammatical rules and vocabulary. They'll also win the crown!

I hope to keep learning together and to have a new lesson from this fifth semester!

Currently I am 18, and when I was 12 I got forced to go out home and start working. Even though I wasn't able to study at school because of that, I kept my dream of becoming a good teacher. Once I finished school, at the age of 15, I had been a waiter, a downtown seller, and many other things. I started practicing and improving my English skills and I found a big love for it, so I got certificated with the OTE.

When I felt ready to jump into my dream, I took the admission exam at UNAL and I got enrolled in this beautiful major that made me fall in love with teaching, English, and language in general, more and more.

Now, I'm proud because I left hard times and I became a teacher. I remember being sooo happy teaching my first class! I have been working as a teacher for a couple of months and I think that I found my place in the world being here, and I'm very excited for what future brings.
