Mrs. Spellman's 4th Grade Class
Mrs. Seirer's 5th Grade Class
Chapman School District
USD473 - Kansas
Greetings from the Sunflower State. Chapman is a very large school district. We are the largest (area wise) school district in the state of Kansas. We are a K-5 country school surrounded by fields. 75 students attend Blue Ridge Elementary. It's not uncommon to have coyotes on our playground. Our students all ride a bus to school. Our students are very involved in 4-H. Interesting fact, our school doesn't have a library. We have a bookmobile that comes 2x a week for the students to check out books. It is air conditioned and heated. The bookmobile reminds me of the magic school bus. There's always an adventure waiting to happen on the bookmobile.

Hello from Mrs. Durgin's class! We are a class of 15 5th graders in the largest city in North Dakota-Fargo! Even though we are the largest city, our population is just over 123,000 (as of 2017). Fargo has a lot of great things about it, but it does get rather COLD here in the winter! We can sometimes find ourselves traveling to school in the morning when temperatures are NEGATIVE 20 degrees! Brrrr!! Even though the winters are brutal at times, the people here are warm and friendly, and the summers are fantastic! We have many lakes within an hour that we can venture to for some fun in the sun! Fargo's landscape is-you guessed it-FLAT! That's because we sit at the bottom of old Lake Agassiz which was formed when a glacier melted a long, long time ago-more than 13,000 years ago! The lake eventually dried up, leaving behind the Red River Valley and the Red River itself. Ours is one of very few rivers in the world that actually flows to the north! We are excited to partake in the Global Read Aloud, and can't wait to learn more about all of you!!

Hello from the Midwest! We are Mrs. Kerber's 2nd grade class and we are excited to share a little bit about us, with you! Our city has a lot of really cool history. Did you know that the 16th president of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, came to Council Bluffs? He had a talk with Mayor Dodge and decided that our city would be the best place for the eastern terminus of the Transcontinental Railroad! Our school is made up of 4 grades, 2nd-5th. Each grade has 9 classrooms and we have approximately 900 students! We love the weather here in the Midwest because we get to experience all 4 seasons. It gets pretty warm in the summer, nice and cool in the fall and spring, and chilly and snowy in the winter. We are located right next to the Missouri River and our neighboring city to the west is Omaha, NE, home to the College World Series and the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. Want to learn more? We'd love to answer your questions or just connect with you in general! Email us at jkerber@lewiscentral.org

It is getting colder and some leaves are starting to turn colors. We aren't close to the Chesapeake Bay but it is a beautiful part of our state. Our state animal is a blue crab.

Hello hello from Mrs. Pignataro's 2nd grade class in Wichita, Kansas! Our class has 20 students this year. Our school is rather large, we have over 400 K-5 students. We live in the suburb of Andover, right on the eastern edge of Wichita. It's starting to get a little chillier here in Wichita, in fact Sunday we even had some snow! It's the earliest we've had snow since 1996! Today it's about 50 degrees and sunny. Kansas is famous for sunflowers, the Wizard of Oz, and crops of wheat! But we promise we aren't a bunch of farm kids! The population is close to 400,000 in the city limits. Wichita is called "The Air Capitol City of the World". The reason for this is we are home to many aircraft companies, Boeing/Spirit, AirBus, LeerJet, etc. We even have an Air Force Base in town!
We are currently reading chapter 10 in a Boy Called Bat, and we are loving it!

Hello! We are class 5M from Columbus Elementary School in Mt. Vernon, NY. There are two other fifth grade classes in our school besides ours. We have 18 students in class 5M but there about 65 fifth graders in all. Our school starts in Pre-K and goes up to 7th grade now but next year will go to 8th grade too. At Columbus, we wear maroon and khaki (beige) uniforms even though we are a public school. We are lucky at Columbus because we get to participate in lots of fun events and activities. Some of them are Field Day, Trick or Trunk, Spanish Heritage Festival, Sweetheart Dance, Drumline, and Band. '
In New York, we have 4 seasons. Our spring, summer and fall are similar to the southern states like North and South Carolina. We also get the humidity. Our winters are different because we do get a lot of snow. This is great because sometimes show gets cancelled.
