For a long time, men have been condition to a toxic masculinity were they can't be vulnerable, however, this ad challenges this idea by saying it is okay for men to do all these things that in the past were not seen as "manly".

This ad asks the questions that for years men and boys have been told to avoid. Men in the past were told there were certain ways to act and certain things that "men" shouldn't do. This ad challenges this idea by overwhelming the viewer with so many different men doing things that they "shouldn't and it closes with the question "Is it okay for men to be themselves". This question builds confidence in the men and boys that ask themselves this every day. The men that think these things are not alone any more. Their thoughts are valid and they will feel more comfortable doing things that they have been previously told not to do.

The Ad for Harry's: Shave, or Don't challenges harmful social constructs such as toxic masculinity and what it means to be a man. It relays words such as "Now you can shave just a little. You can shave a lot. You can shave to stand out. You can shave to blend in" ultimately, reassuring that there is no specific outline or rubric that men need to stick to. There was even a transgender man included in the video! There were men of all colors, sizes, sexuality, and hair shape/size! Awesome stuff

This ad challenges the "boys will be boys" excuse that is often used to justify sexual harassment. It starts by showing different situations where men and boys are allowed to be violent and their actions are ignored simply because it's a common occurrence. As it progresses and the "boys will be boys" chants get louder, those situations are shifted to show men stepping in to stop. Gilette's slogan "The Best Men Can Be" is used to signify how a real man is one that stands up for what is right and treats people with respect.

As a brand targeted towards men, Gillette feels the need to address the elephant in the room with all of the sexual assault allegations & the #MeToo movement. They're challenging the phrase "boys will be boys", which has been used for forever to excuse bad behavior, whether it be aggressiveness, violence, or inappropriate advances towards girls. Rather than putting them responsible for their actions, we as a society have dismissed it as being "typical" behavior, which then teaches boys that they're can get away with it and continue acting irresponsibly.
