In the 60’s, Gordon Monroe, the giant brain and semiconductor pioneer, predicted that electronic designers could double processor speed every 18 months. This is called Moore’s Law. The only problem is that designers understood another thing from this law, which is that we have to throw our electronics every 18 months and buy a new one. 

The truth is that 18 months is a small part in their entire cycle, causing not only pain in our wallets, also a global toxic emergency. Electronics starts in mines and factories. Most of our gadgets are made from more than 1000 different materials, which are shipped all around the world to assembly plants. In here, workers use loads of toxic chemicals to turn these materials into products. After assembly plants, these products are shipped to our hands for a year or so, then they start slowly deteriorating. After we decide to throw them out, they end up on one of the mountains of e-waste that we create each year.

In the other hand, Washington recieves most of their electricity from power plants, but for 2032 they want to be fully supported by renewable electricity. It is all part of a national goal, by 2050, President Biden, wants nearly half of the energy coming from solar plants.He also wants to reduce 50% of emmisions by 2030. Meaning that he wants to change from natural gas plants, to wind turbines. Or from coal plants to solar plants. He also wants people to switch from gas cars to electric cars, to start heating building with electric heat pumps, and for people to cook on electric stoves. Basically, we will need to use way more electricity than before. So if we do ot start to build more powerlines, all of that effort will not serve a purpose.

Eventhough some eco-tourism projects succed in promoting these two causes, there are others that are less succesful. Enviromental deterioration and inequitable development may in some cases actually be exacerbated by eco-tourism.To ensure that this completes its purpose, policymakers, promoters, and participants should make sure that all activities should have minimal enviromental impact. 

Today, eco-tourism, forms the 7% of the tourism industry. Only in Asia, reporters ars showing a growth of 10 to 25% per year. That is why more developing countries are investing more and more money into their tropical beaches, ruins, etc.

According to researchers from John Hopkins, the general rule-of-thumb for wind farm spacing is that turbines are about 7 rotor diameters away from each other. So an 80-meter (262-foot) rotor would need to be 560 meters -- more than a third of a mile -- from adjacent turbines.

Tourism is not just a victim of global warming – it also contributes to the problem. Tourism alone is responsible for 8% of the world’s carbon emissions. When we travel, carbon emissions are generated throughout our trips. While flying is the largest source of these emissions, other activities, such as using the AC in hotels or taking a boat ride, produce CO2 as well. Beyond these direct emissions, tourism development can also cause CO2 to be released by degrading ecosystems that act as carbon sinks.

I had a great experience during my time in this course. It is the first time that I understood, and that I was interested to learn when taking a science class. We learned things that are currently happening (such as climate change), and the ways we have to solve this problem. I also enjoyed the way the professor taught this class. I liked that everything we did was during class time. That really helps with the stress that students have during the semester when homework gets accumulated. 

Now that the semester has ended, I am glad that I choose to take this class. This is one of the classes that I enjoyed the most during my time at Miami Dade College, not only because I like how the class was taught and the subjects I learnt, also because it is the first time that I actually enjoyed a science class. I do not know where I am going to study next year, but I do know that I would like to still take some science classes wherever I am going. 

In conclusion, I am very happy that I experience this class, and I hope that in the future I have Professors that teach their class the same way as you did!
