What do you agree/disagree with?

Agree:

-“Technology in education is the biggest change in teaching we will ever see.”
-“Whether adding a single tool for a specific project or term, or making a more dramatic change such as a flipped classroom, being well-versed in technology can help build credibility with students and even fellow colleagues.”
-“Technology is not meant to replace the teacher. Rather, the idea is to create a flexible learning environment that breeds innovation. It shifts the classroom experience from the ‘sage-on-a-stage’ approach to a more collaborative learning environment. The success of such endeavors will ultimately depend upon how technology is applied to keep students engaged.”

Overall, I agree with the message the article presents. Rather than praising technology as the new be-all and end-all of education, it shows how it can be used as a tool to enhance teaching.

Disagree:
-“Some instructors are turning toward classroom ‘gamification,’ the use of competitive scenarios, and the distribution of points and rewards to make the classroom more fun and engaging.

-“Many schools have writing centers that can help with this.”

I had a difficult time finding anything in the article I disagreed with beyond these two quotes. For the first, I feel that "turning toward classroom 'gamification'" can almost be considered bribing students into enjoying a subject or lesson. For the second, I don't agree with it because while a writing center in high schools would be beneficial to students, I had never heard of one before coming to college.

How do you aspire to incorporate technology in your own classroom?

I believe that technology can be a highly useful tool as long as the bulk of a student’s education is still supplied through the teacher. That being said, I can definitely see myself using a system such as Google Classroom or something similar to it in my own classroom. I can see the benefit in it because it is a great organizational system for both teacher and student and gives students a central point of contact with their teacher. The main goal for me incorporating technology into my future classroom is to find tools that truly serve a purpose in helping keep students organized and focused. Using technology simply to be able to say you have doesn’t serve a purpose and has no benefit.

While there are cons to technology, particularly concerning math, resources such as Khan Academy are very beneficial. Students are able to use these videos review lessons their teacher has taught them as well as evaluate where their skills are in a specific subject and track their progress.

Another potentially useful aspect of technology is teachers being able to record their lessons and upload them to a designated site for students to access. This gives the students the ability to go back over the exact lesson the teacher taught in case they missed something during the original lesson or simply needed to see exactly how a problem was worked out again.

Because of the transition to online learning during Covdid-19, what stuck out to me the most was the article’s stance on digital education. The article points out that it can be frustrating but can lead to new teaching opportunities and this could not be more accurate.

-“Digital education is generating new learning opportunities as students engage in online, digital environments and as faculty change educational practices through the use of hybrid courses, personalized instruction, new collaboration models and a wide array of innovative, engaging learning strategies.”

-“It can be frustrating and time-consuming, but in the end, technology in education can open doors to new experiences, new discoveries, and new ways of learning and collaborating.”
