Faso Is currently the representative for the NY 19th district. He is part of the republican party, but tends to have slightly more leftist(on the flat line spectrum) views on healthcare and climate change than most republicans. John Faso still has traditionally republican views on gun control and immigration. Faso is considerably more bipartisan than most members of congress and a fairly moderate candidate.

New York's 19th district is a rural district including Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, and Ulster counties. According to the New York Times, the 19th district is one of the whitest districts in America being 90% white. This swing district backed Trump in the recent election after turning out in 2008 and 2012 for Obama. New York has no early voting, but you can register online. Voter ID is not required at the polls. This district is a notorious swing state, but most predict the republican winning streak will continue on November 6th because of sociological factors. The district has a median age of 44.5, 6.9% foreign born citizens (which is 1/3 the state wide average and 1/2 the nation average), also 6.9% are veterans (which is 1.5 times the state wide average) and only 29% of the districts population has a bachelor degree or more, making the districts rate lower than the national and state average. Voter turnout is around 38% for voting aged citizens.

NPR provided the following information about former rapper, lawyer, and Harvard Law Graduate Antonio Delgado, born in Rhinebeck. Delgado's campaign is focused on health care- specifically regarding drug use and Lyme's disease, and culture & race. Delgado claims to support "universal healthcare" for everyone, whether they can afford it or not. Delgado and Faso has a 'racial conflict', stemming from Faso insulting Delgado's rapping career and lyrics. A debate ensued; arguing that Faso was being racist, but Faso claims that his comments had "nothing to do with race," -Vox. Also according to NPR, some Republicans are unhappy with his past as a rapper, arguing that he is not qualified to represent them in the House. There are rumors that an opponent of his, Pat Ryan, has a Super PAC (Honor Fund) which spends money actually opposing Delgado.

NPR states that Faso, on the other hand, is the incumbent in this election. Faso had voted against the Affordable Care Act. Then, last month, he voted in favor of some aspects of the act. Faso claims that he is in favor the the ACA, but would like to change some aspects of it. Faso went on to state that he would like to abolish the act and replace it with a similar, but improved, act. Faso appeals to moderates in his slightly-liberal view on climate change. Faso's campaign is not focused on race as much as Delgado.

One poll by the New York Times, suggested that Delgado was in the lead by only 1%. This survey how ever was only conducted with 505 participants leaving a great margin for error. The survey stated that Delgado had 45% favourable rating, 38% unfavourable, and 16% unsure. As for Faso, they found him to have a 47% favourable rating, 44% unfavourable, and only 9% unsure. This polling data is extremely close, and with a small sample size making it hard to see a clear result.
Another survey from Sienna suggested Faso was up 5 points. Their sample size was again only around 500 making it very tough to call. In addition, this survey was taken many months ago and may not represent peoples views now.
Another survey from Monmouth found Delgado to be in the lead with 5 points, but this survey was taken with an even smaller sample size of only 346. All in all the polls are very close and not the most reliable way to predict the results.

Based on New York's 19th congressional districts demographics, voting patterns, and views of the candidate, we predict John Faso will take the seat. Studies show white Americans are the most likely race to vote Republican, and the district is nearly all white. Other factors include age, military status, marriage status, and education. All of these point towards a republican result. In addition to this, the district most recently voted for Trump in the 2016 presidential election. Based on Faso's beliefs, he is much more moderate on an ideological scale than Trump presented himself in the 2016 election making it much easier for Faso to take the moderate vote. And finally, the voters seemingly trust John more than Delgado. John has many advantages such as being the incumbent, and therefore already having some of the voters trust. In the voters eyes, Delgado is not the safe bet. His background in rap may lose some support for looking unprofessional. He is also a minority and may find trouble connecting to the overwhelming amount of white voters in the district. However some argue that Delgado could potentially take the seat because of the recent polling data showing Delgado a few points ahead. This evidence is weak and the polls should be taken with a grain of salt because of the small sample size, and large margin of error. Because of these reasons, we predict John Faso will win the vote on Tuesday.
