- touching bark, grass, exploring through touch the tactile elements with hands and feet (barefoot!) 
 - climbing trees
- building cubby houses or other structures
- planting seeds (digging a hole, smelling the earth, feeling the seeds and the earth) 
- digging holes, making dirt constructions
- putting hands and feet into a stream / water
- watching animals, birds, bugs (and listening to) 
- making noises in nature - makeshift flutes, drums, etc.

Every item either needs to be easily wipes with antimicrobial wipes or given to the patient to keep.

When working with infants I use: 

 - light boxes that change colour when moved
 - balls that make different sounds when rolled
 - sounds tubes
 - iPad for music and lullabys
 - Light projector
 - LED lights
 - Cellophane! This is a good one as you can play peek-a-boo, scrunch it up to make noises and change the colour of items.

Pinwheels can be fun to make or just to use, they provide visual input, and many children enjoy the feeling of visual disorientation from observing them closely. Kaleidoscopes also provide a similar experience.  
Headphones connected to an app that has a variety of sounds recorded, children could self select, or play a guessing game, what do you think this is. Musical instruments can also be a way to explore different sounds, a variety of instruments that make varying sounds can be beneficial. ]]> 2022-04-19 02:09:33 UTC https://padlet.com/katerenshaw/bqgr9rrnhhrkpeix/wish/2147843308 arwheeler2 https://padlet.com/katerenshaw/bqgr9rrnhhrkpeix/wish/2151762532 Sensory interventions - we use a lot, from a drive in the car (motion), to a hug with rocking. Of cause this is not necessarily play, although can be (I'm thinking of the row row your boat!), but jumping on a trampoline really can work in those areas too (also helps to regulate), a swing chair is good some times and although we might start off in a simple word game (with teenager's) that hopefully moves into psycho-education. I think one of my favourite things I have recently read was about the idea of making magic dust out of salt and food colouring and showing a child how positive thoughts and magic dust can make an egg float! Tactile, I also done the piece of wood with a nail, trick (supervise the child to hammer the nail into the wood, and then they remove it) many fine analogies their. I like to walk and talk when a child is particularly heightened, I have asked the child to keep up with me and whilst they talk rapidly have a blistering pace, I might stop and turn and call back for the child to keep up, when you are both in sync with walking and talking, slow down the walking pace.

In maths, used water and sand to explore the volume and capacity of different containers. And in science, used slime to explore how properties change.
