Indonesia in heterogeneous because it covers a large amount of area. North Korea is homogeneous because of its authoritarian government. Australia and Japan are isolated, creating a homogeneous population. Indonesia and Vietnam are developing countries will an increasing population. In the mid-1800s, Commodore Perry from the U.S. opened isolated Japan to the world. Japan won the Russo-Japanese war in 1905. They controlled part of Sakhalin (in Russia), Korea, Manchuria (in China), and islands in the North Pacific. Australia was a colony for British convicts i the late 1700s. In 19001, it became an independent country. During WWI, Vietnam wanted to be independent from the French. In 1945, resistance from Communists caused U.S. involvement. 30 years later, the Communists were in control. The Dutch wanted to control Indonesia for its resources. In WWII, the country fought for independence, which it reached in 1949. Today, there is much corruption and instability. Malaysia controlled Singapore in 1963. Singapore became a city-state two years later. After becoming independent, the country struggled economically.
