         <title> April wheeler and the reclaiming of the female voice -    &quot;April is rarely provided with a voice that would have enabled her to narrate herself and her story. This clearly alludes to what Betty Friedan called ‘the problem that has no name.’ Until the end of the novel our perception of April is created mainly through the narration of Frank and the other characters.&quot; For example after the play he describes April ‘She would dissolve and change into the graceless, suffering creature whose existence he tried every day of his life to deny but whom he knew himself, a gaunt restricted woman whose red eyes flashed reproach, whose false smile in the curtain call was as homely as his own sore feet, his own damp climbing underwear and his own sour smell.&#39; I agree with this as Frank creates Aprils own identity for her, she is never given the chance to articulate her own identity. i would recommend this article as it gives a detailed analysis of the castration and reclaiming of the female voice and how it applies to Aprils character. It also gives helpful context such as feminism where April rejects Franks masculinity. For example...</title>

         <title>Towards the end of the novel, we experience a change in April’s attitude and she starts challenging Frank’s use of language and his credibility as definer. When Frank is expressing his opinion on how it is the most ‘mature’ thing to keep the child April is carrying, April challenges him and says. ‘But there we are again ...You see? I don’t know what ‘mature’means, either, and you could talk all night and I still wouldn’t know. It’s just words to me,Frank. I watch you talking and I think: Isn’t that amazing? He really does think that way; these words really do mean something to him.&#39; April is here rejecting his masculine set perceptions of what certain words mean and is engaging in the feminist tradition of subverting masculine use of language through questioning the basic meaning of words and how he is using them.&quot;</title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div> <br>"WHY IS IT so damn hard for people to talk? growls Big Daddy in Tennesse Williams cat on a hot tin roof. And in answer to his question critics have argued that mendacity and misanthropy have closed dooes to truth on the Pollit plantation. The estranged and hardened Brick opts for silence; Mae and Gooper are caught up in the hurly-burly of greed; Big Daddy forcefully asserts where he should gently inquire; and Big Mama plays out her role as part Harridan, part buffoon. Only maggie the cat attempts to break down barriers. If communication is one of the most difficult things in the play, it is one of the most important. I agree with this statement as communication seems to be the root of problems in the play and seems to be williams main focus as he draws audeinces attention to mendacity within the Pollit family</div>]]></description>

         <title>&quot;Through his stage craft Williams exposes these problems in communication. In a sense Big daddy&#39;s question can be answered in strictly physical terms. Williams, it seems, is at some pains to deal with the physical dimensions of conversation. The play is rich in references to the human voice and the intrusive, virulent sounds which war to destroy dialogue in Bricks bedroom. A pattern of interrupted conversations, set in motion by obstreperous, unwelcomed entrances, phone calls, and eavesdropping further illustrates Williams concern with human expression. I agree with this statement as Williams concern with human expression is further shown by how the relationships of characters begin to break down towards the end of the play as truths are slowly revealed. i would recommend this article for an insightful view of the authors intention of addressing the theme of communication</title>
