I also found that the of UDL was new to me as an educator until I started taking these courses last year and the curriculum was new from 2016 so how is it that this language has not been provided and time set out to educate and teach our educators at least in my district and school.

Process-How do we group students

I believe that BC is on the right track and there are so many people with great ideas who want to see inclusion in our system.  Unfortunately we aren't able to get there with a number of barriers in most schools and systems or the lack of access to what is needed to follow through.

"In 1985, Canada clearly signalled that it valued equity for all its citizens when it became the first country in the world to include the rights of persons with physical and mental disabilities in its Charter of Rights and Freedoms (Council of Canadians with Disabilities, 2012). While it might appear that this development was a harbinger of a commitment to develop systems that would support full participation of all Canadian citizens, the necessary actions required to support this legislation have been slow in developing. Furthermore, the infrastructure necessary to ensure the goal of equity is not yet in place, especially in schools." I focused on funding in the past task and I believe that it is one of the biggest barriers educators face.  Without the funding available the testing isn't provided, proper assessment and placement doesn't exist.  Resources are in shortage as they aren't being bought or shared.  Time is money and the time isn't being given to educators to spend enough time learning, educating themselves to become more knowledgable to be able to provide the inclusive techniques given to them through their own education.  Training of any type takes time and money and educators also have to be willing to spend this time and want to learn or change their techniques and ways.  Many teachers unfortunately don't either know how to change and may be intimidated or scared to make mistakes or feel uncomfortable trying new things and doing something differently.  Training and funding can really help those teachers to over come those barriers and hopefully be able to apply what they have learned to be more inclusive in their classrooms.  Again this all takes funding to do so.  All of this takes a huge commitment from every level in the education system so when their is resistance somewhere along the line it slows everything down.  As educators on all levels I believe everyone has to commit to wanting to learn, grow, adapt, reflect and put in the work and time.   

The new BC education plan has changed to be very learner centred/focused.  It offer students a lot of personal choice so they can find what works or them as well as the flexibility for them to change what isn't working and try new things/ways.  As an educator in the last few years I have shifted with the new curriculum to self-assessment (we do weekly google classroom self-reflections), to adverse and dynamic learning environments.  Having access to resources and different types of technology in the classrooms allows for huge development and growth if educators are able and willing to take advantage of what is available.  The new curriculum focuses a lot on cross curriculum teaching/learning and different environments.  In my school we have many teachers and programs focused on this and I think it is fantastic.  Sometimes the kids don't even realize they are learning in three different subjects at the same time while being active and outside.  We have a program called Strive at our school for grade 10's where the math, english, science and physical education teachers collaborate and teach together.  They go on daily outings or trips where they are covering all 4 subject areas.  They are learning outside the box and are outside literally which I think is so important.  The teachers are able to bring all their knowledge and different teaching styles together which also allows for the kids who all learn in different ways to have more success as well.  

In my teaching space I have really embraced using the technology that I have available to my students and myself.  We are always learning in new environments and I am always trying to come up with and provide my students with a variety of ways to do something or be a participant.  We have so many ways we can achieve the same goals with our bodies and minds it's just finding the right one for each individual.
