My IB situation is unique because I have experienced teaching the IB program through being an English B teacher and TOK teacher throughout those 8 years, but I have no experience with English A and only know a little about the Category 1 subject since this is taught in Turkish in our school. So, I have an appreciation for the IB program as a whole, but would like to know more about what this specific course entails.

I would really like to understand the overall structure of the course. So my most pressing question would be: How does one structure a course to meet the goals for the Language A subject? 

The teachers I've had the opportunity to work with over the years have taught me so much,  especially through online instruction during Covid. So, in order to develop positive online professional relationships, its important to be responsive to questions and open to suggestions.

At the start, the speaker begins with a clear introduction that sets up the global issues of the effects of alienation and society’s obsession with money while introducing Duffy and Banksy. The literary device of personification, visual imagery and juxtaposition are also brought up. 

Then, I notice the speaker first analyzes Duffy’s work by looking at a few of her poems through the global issues and literary devices before doing the same with Banksy. The work and text is systematically addressed, as the speaker brings the analysis back to the global issue. 

The conclusion ends with a comparison between the two works and sums up the presentation. The presentation ends after 10 minutes and transitions to a question and answer session for the last 5 minutes. 

I notice the teacher asks open ended questions attempting to get the student to broaden and deepen the student’s analysis of the global issues relating to works outside the selected works and texts but also related to the ideas in the presentation. The student uses evidence to justify the responses. 

Overall, the student is clear and focused, uses transitions between ideas and keeps organized.
