The public debate became very emotional and the protests quickly gained momentum, leading to the government's decision to hold a referendum. On 6 November 1978, 50.4% voted against the construction of the plant. The Zwentendorf protest is considered the birth of the Austrian Green movement.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The public discourse on 'energy security' has recently gained momentum with the war in Ukraine and the sharp rise in oil and gas prices.&nbsp;<br><br></div><blockquote>Similar to lignite, domestic nuclear power is experiencing a discur-sive revival since it could supposedly promote both energy indepen-dence and climate protection.</blockquote><div>Wiertz et al. 2022, p.6<br><br></div><div>In terms of the impact of the war in Ukraine on national energy policies around the world, the renaissance of nuclear energy in some countries can be seen as a manifestation of energy policies aimed at 'national energy security' - as opposed to 'accelerating energy transition' (Żuk and Żuk, 2022).<br><br>The tour guide described how in the wake of the energy crisis, visitors repeatedly asked whether it was possible to switch on the nuclear power plant - before that, this was rather unusual according to its observations.</div>]]></description>
