The rats that migrated from boats as well as the fleas on the rats are believed to have rapidly and effectively spread the black plague.
The black plague also spread very rapidly because it was air born. The plague would go into the victims lungs which would cause them to sneeze and spread the disease even more.

Effects: Since the black plague was spreading so rapidly and so many people were dying, food production started to decline and villages began to disappear. Christians also began to blame the Jews and they became scapegoats. Also, landowners put a max cap on the salary for peasants which caused them to revolt.
