I chose this poem because it basically summarizes how Miles and Flora’s real personalities are.  They both have two different sides of them that they show off. Based on what I have read this is a significant quote that sums up how the two are as a person. Miles acts as though he is well-mannered and a good child, but little does the governess know she was going to be receiving a letter in the mail about him being expelled from school. The act he undertook had to be so terrible that even the headmaster couldn’t explain in the letter to the governess exactly what problem he placed on the school. "It would have been impossible to carry a bad name with a greater sweetness of innocence, and by the time I had got back to Bly with him I remained merely bewildered—so far, that is, as I was not outraged—by the sense of the horrible letter locked up in my room, in a drawer. As soon as I could compass a private word with Mrs. Grose I declared to her that it was grotesque.”(Governess, chapter 3)The governess thought of Miles as innocent and thought it was impossible for someone like him to do such an act. The governess didn’t react like a normal person would because all she did was run her imagination, thinking about the worst possibilities while she could be getting the actual facts and trying to contact the headmaster. Flora is also the same way because the governess had asked Flora why she was staring out the window and at first she turns the blame on the governess, but then tells the real reason. She was worried when she woke up because her roommate was not in the room and she thought that there was a spirit of some kind outside watching her. She also hid the boat at the lake that was usually docked there.

In this visual art it is showing an illustration of a country estate home that's location is in Essex, England in the English countryside. A young twenty year old woman had answered an advertisement for the position of being governess. The position is isolated and you have to deal with problems yourself and can’t reach out to the employer/ bachelor. The woman was attracted to this bachelor and thought that she might have a chance with him by accepting the job offer. So this country home is the Bly manor that the governess works at for the bachelor. This is where she meets Mrs. Grose(the housekeeper) and Flora( a little girl).  Mrs. Grose follows all of the governess’s commands and listens to her concerns and helps her out with anything she could possibly need. This image represents a good visualization of how the country estate looks. “No; it was a big, ugly, antique, but convenient house, embodying a few features of a building still older, half replaced and half utilized, in which I had the fancy of our being almost as lost as a handful of passengers in a great drifting ship. Well, I was, strangely, at the helm!”(James, I) In this quote the governess is giving an imagery of what she sees when she first arrives at the Bly manor.

You are aware of the many Halloween songs we hear each year which gives off a scary and suspenseful feeling. Well that is exactly how my AP reading is with the unexpected events that had happened to the governess, Mrs. Grose, Miles, and Flora. The governess has made it her responsibility to keep the children safe from the ghost that haunts their property. The governess had discussed to Mrs. Grose about the two events that happened to her, and the man was identified to be Peter Quint who was the bachelor previous pallet which is now dead. They realized that the ghost was going after the children. These songs are giving a great depiction of their frightful experiences. In the song “Thriller” by Michael Jackson in the first part of the song it is showing how a person is being stalked by an “evil” identity. Later, in the second verse of the song the identity trapped her inside the house. This is very similar to the story since the family is being stalked by an identity that has intentions to what they are going to do with the kids." He was looking for someone else, you say—someone who was not you?"

"He was looking for little Miles." A portentous clearness now possessed me. "That’s whom he was looking for." In this quote it shows how the governess is realizing that this ghost is after one person mainly which is Miles and she has to do something to prevent it from happening.

I chose this creation because it shows I know the main points of the story so far and I am developing knowledge of the characters. As you can tell the governess is the protagonist of the story since she is put in charge to supervise and assist them with all their needs just like a guardian would do. I’ve realized that maybe the governess is right about Miles not being a troublemaker because I believe he could’ve possibly encountered the spirit beforehand and he could’ve scared his classmates by telling them about his experience. I predict the ghost had communicated with Miles someway and he could’ve also repeated that. He might be coming off as the bad person in the beginning of the book, but might come out as being innocent." He had never for a second suffered. I took this as a direct disproof of his having really been chastised. If he had been wicked he would have "caught" it, and I should have caught it by the rebound – I should have found the trace. I found nothing at all, and he was therefore an angel.” In the following quote, it shows that the governess’s faith in Miles' innocence only is based on his outward appearance and she really has no clue how he is on the inside. The governess has no background story of their past so she really doesn’t have a good idea of how the kids really are. The only thing she can do for the kids now is protect them at all costs after seeing the spirits and knowing that they could be trying to hurt them. She shows her frustration with this event because she would’ve never thought her new job would come down to a stressful situation like this one. “I take up my own pen again - the pen of all my old unforgettable efforts and sacred struggles. To myself - today - I need say no more. Large and full and high the future still opens. It is now indeed that I may do the work of my life. And I will.” The governess is preparing herself for what’s going to happen in the future for her at the Bly manor with the paranormal. She knows she has failed in the past and struggled, but now is her time to prove herself.
