Goal # 1: Build self-confidence

Firstly, I have to focus on build self-confidence. I believed that everyone couldn’t finish a good job without confidence. No matter what we do, we must first be confidence. Those who shy away from retrenching tend to be self-confident and skeptical of their ability to perform or do something. For example, we are year four university students, we have lots of mock interviews and practice many times. Part of people originally did a really good job during the interview, but in the real life situation they were nervous and don’t know what to say. It directly impacts us that performance in the interview was not very good. According to Daft (2018) “ self-confidence is at the heart of being a leader, tasking risk, and becoming powerful” (p.336). Therefore, if I want to become a successful leader I have to build my self-confidence first. There are two steps in my first action plan.

I have to proactive to tell myself I can do this thing. If you denying your ability, it is not possible to get anything done. Self-confidence comes from the correct understanding of self and evaluation. I have to clearly know what is my strengths when I finished work, and know how to properly use my advantages at the same time. Every day before going to sleep, I will actively imply myself, other people can do, and I believe I also can do it. Our class is a good example of practice self-confidence. Every time after the class discussion, we can see there always those people give the presentation, such as Kyla and Laura. So, practice speaking in the public area is also important, I realized that most people always said maybe next time I’ll speak for the team, but the next time is when? Next, I will replace the cell phone wallpaper to motivate my self, such as the motivate slogan because every second people will check their cell phone.

In my point of view, people’s body language is really important. I’ll practice smile and pay more attention on my behaviors and outlook. It can directly show my current state. For example, a good outfit can get people’s praise, and improve people’s mental outlook and self-confidence. I believed that try to have the eye contact can also help me build self-confidence, only the people who don’t have confidence will avoiding other people’ sight.

My second goal that is as a leader, I have to encourage my followers in the team. I want my followers to feel that following me is not a bad choice and they enjoy working with me. At the same time, I also need to get used to followers’ speed. There is a slang saying that put my feet in other peoples’ shoes, which stands for making a decision according to their considerations as well as the whole impact to the company. Therefore, my followers would have more motivations and feel following me is the right thing to do, and we would have a long-term collaboration relationship. There are three steps in my action plan, including rewarding followers, being patient to followers, and having open communication with my followers to solve their confusions.

The first step is giving the reward to followers whether they do a good job or not. For example, we could have a short-term travel after a project. This purpose is letting everyone to release the stress. Even if the project is not perfect, I still think spending time with followers is very important because we could have more time to get closer to each other and understand deeper of every follower.

The second step is to be patient. As a leader, answering and responding followers’ questions and confusions are very important. Moreover, patience could also be a behavior of being respectful, for example, listening. Therefore, being patient could reduce the distance between leaders and followers. Nobody would like a leader who keeps distance with everybody else.

The last step is to have clear and open-minded communication regularly. The time zone of communication could be flexible and not necessary related to the job. According to Miller (2017) “ encouragement can lead to success for an employee- at which time praise is appropriate” (para.1). This is a good chance to get understand the followers. When it comes to dividing projects, I know who is good at doing what as I know everyone’s strengths and weaknesses. So, I could develop followers’ potential and improve their weaknesses, which enhances the win-win situation.
