Largely between 2002 and 2012, the site seems to have increased the amount of content displayed on their page, shifting from simply showing one cover story to having multiple accessible from the homepage.
In 2022, while they still present more articles than in 2002, they appear to be more focused/tied than in 2012. For this screenshot, all the front and center articles are various iterations of their interviews with Serena Williams.
Notably, 2022’s site seems to show more diverse and inclusive content which is reflective of the shifts in the conversation of media representation that has taken place between 2002, 2012, and 2022.

In 2002, the website can be described as more ‘awkward’ or clunky, however, seeing as the internet had not undergone the evolution we have seen today, this is on par with the rest of the aesthetics of the time online.
In 2012, the website was very busy with lots of color and no specific scheme tying it all together.
In 2022, we can see the website has transitioned towards a more sleek and simplistic look, with little color and consistent font choices.

In 2002, there is no sign that Vogue had any media presence beyond their website and physical magazine.
By 2012, while not displayed in the screenshot, we can see that there is a link to both Vogue’s Twitter and Facebook, which allows the audience to take a look into different streams of Vogue’s content.
Similar to 2012, 2022 maintains their social media presence by promoting their different channels on their website.
While all the screenshots show that there is an option that lets viewers subscribe to the magazine, only the 2012 and 2022 versions show that the user can “log in,” indicating that the site has adopted more participatory techniques to keep their audience engaged.

Interestingly, in both 2002 and 2012, there is a tab labeled “parties” which is subsequently taken away by the time we reach the 2022 version of the site.
- Perhaps by 2022, Vogue deemed it unnecessary to show their audience the party life of the fashion world. This may be because with the rise of social media, viewers are able to see this party life from the perspective of whomever they are interested in seeing. Additionally, Vogue may be trying to ‘clean up’ their image and stop promoting a party culture.
In all three screenshots, we see that the site consistently offers their audience the opportunity to subscribe to the magazine. Each screenshot shows this feature as one of the first things a user will see upon entering the site.

5. What can we learn about the site and the evolution of the Web in general by looking at it historically?

We can see that Vogue, although it is often regarded as a trend-creating outlet, follows along with the media trends of the time. Especially in 2022, when so many other sites have adopted a more minimalist aesthetic, Vogue follows suit and maintains their status as trend-centric.
As time goes on, users demand more and more from the sites they visit, which we can see through the difference in available tabs and articles from 2002 to 2022.

Upon looking at the page source, I was nervous to navigate my way through it as I have very little background in coding or computer science. However, as I looked closer, I realized that the list of names we see on the main page correspond to the list of names and links we see on the page source, indicating that that is the code running what we see on the main page. I understood very quickly everything pertaining to the 'look' of the page (i.e font size, colour, etc...). Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the first and last line on the list don't have the code "del" in front of it, which are also the last two items that do not have a strike through them on the main page. This lead me to think that that code was responsible for this strike, which upon looking it up, is exactly what it corresponds to. As well, I had a hunch that "
" stood for break, as in line break, since it appears at the end of each line before a new one starts. So, when writing my own line, I made sure to use that code as well. Essentially, I copied the last line that did not have "del" in front of it and replaced Nick Montfort's name with my own, which resulted in my name being added to the list.

I don't believe this is the only copy. It is is my camera roll as well as my google photos backup (where I found it). Although I do not remember exactly, I am sure this photo was circulated around the people in it, so they may also have this picture on either their phone camera rolls, their iClouds, or other storage options. I also believe I put this picture in a scrapbook at some point.

I believe I could find this photo ten years from now, as all my photos are backed up to Google Photos. I have been using the same personal email for nine years and I can't imagine I would lose access to it ten years down the line. While it might not be my main google account at that point, I do think that should I wish to find these pictures, it would be possible. However, I would need to remember the date or at least the year it was from, as it did not come up when I searched "gingerbread" or "pajama party."

The page is organized into different sections that indicate different types of information a user may want to see. However, most of the sections concern daily events, meaning Wikipedia changes the content displayed each day. The idea with this page seems to be to keep users informed on the daily ongoings of our world, which aligns with the tradition we have seen throughout history of general curiosity about the world.

I never knew that Wikipedia had what they call "sister projects." Many of these projects, such as the free textbook database and Wikiversity seem to try and bridge the gap in knowledge that occurs when education isn't freely available to all.

Both the free content pillar and the community pillar seem to be upheld on this page. By having users be able to suggest what the daily picture or daily feature story it is it returns some autonomy to the user. As well, any information one could want about this page is freely available and easily findable, meaning it is upholding the free content pillar as well.

How is the Main page of this other language different than the English one? What content is the same and what is different? What might this have to do with cultural knowledge production and information?

While I didn't feel I had enough knowledge in another language to check out this page in, I did take a look at the Simple English version of the page, which is presumably designed for either ESL people or people who are less literate. While the sentences and language themselves are both shorter and more straightforward, the page also displays those same characteristics as well. For example, the page doesn't have a daily picture or as many current events sections. This is presumably to prevent the page from being overwhelming to someone who is not as comfortable with the English language. However, there are Simple English versions of some of the sister projects, such as their knowledge base. I believe this is done in an attempt to bridge the gap between fluent English language speakers and people are trying to to learn.

I decided to edit my old high school's Wikipedia page because I remember looking at it a little while ago and seeing some of the information was inaccurate. I changed the lists of plays and musicals the school had put on, since previously it said that the most recent production was actually one that was put on in 2017. I added the other musicals I could remember the school produced. If I had verifiable information, I would probably add more information on some of the alumni, or add in new notable alumni altogether as I believe there are some missing. However, a struggle I found was the keep up with the the verifiability pillar Wikipedia has. Since I wasn't sure I could verify what I have heard about what fellow alumni are up to exactly, I wouldn't have been able to add in this information.

Which platform did you choose, and what are some of the privacy and recommendation options that are available to you that you didn’t know about before?

I chose TikTok as it's one of the apps I use most frequently on a day-to-day basis. Upon exploration, I noticed that a user can control whether or not their profile is suggested to others. Additionally, I did not know that the app gave a user the option to get targeted ads using information from other apps - I thought this was just done for everyone.

What kinds of options were you (automatically) opting into that you might want to change? Why? How would this modify your experience on the platform moving forward?

I did not know that I was automatically opted in to receive ads personalized to my information that TikTok gets from outside sources. Of course, I had a sense that the app tracks your interests to show you targeted ads, but I didn't realize it was a distinct option. As such, I would consider opting out so that the app doesn't have as much access to my activity. However, I'm not sure if I would do this because to a certain extent, I don't mind get personalized advertisements. If the app is going to show me ads one way or another, there is a part of me that begs the question - why not get ads for things I may be interested in?

What’s a feature that you wish you could have more control over? Why?

As a TikTok user, one can choose whether or not to see who is viewing their videos or viewing their profile. However, should you wish to hide the fact you are looking at other people's profiles, you also lose the ability to see who may be looking at your own. Personally, I wish there was a way that I could see who is viewing my profile without the app showing other people that I have viewed theirs. Although, I understand that this is done for more complicated reasons involving fairness, so it is not something I see TikTok adapting anytime soon.

The quality is decent. It feels a bit impersonal and somewhat like what one might read on a tourism website.

Did you get what you wanted?

Not exactly - it doesn't feel totally genuine. It makes sense because presumably much of the information it's been fed about Whistler is from tourism websites, so naturally it is going provide a more tourist-esque feel.

For someone less knowledgeable than you, is this a good starting point to know more?
It's definitely a good starting point, but further research would be necessary before deciding to raise a family there.

Did you learn anything new with this output?

With these two new inputs, the output I got was definitely more critical and highlighted some less attractive but more realistic sides to living in Whistler, such as the cost of living and lack of diversity.

What made you think of the factors to refine and where can you trace that knowledge back to?
I wanted it to have a more genuine and in depth feel to it and, having grown up part-time in Whistler, I felt it was sugar coating the town a bit.

Original: As a 25-year-old reflecting on my experience living in Whistler as a teenager, I can say that it was a unique and amazing experience. Growing up in Whistler provided me with endless opportunities to explore the outdoors, participate in sports and recreational activities, and learn about different cultures and customs.

Rewrite: As a 20 year old looking back on growing up in Whistler, I definitely had experiences that were unlike those of my friends who only grew up in the city. I was constantly outside, with my high school even offering specific courses to teach us about things from avalanche safety to camping in the snow on ski trips through the backcountry of the mountain. I was surrounded by top athletes, many of whom were bound for the Olympics or other global competitions. With that in mind, it was easy to feel below average when it came to competitive sports, because the standards were so high.

What did you modify and why? What did you leave alone and why?
I changed it so that it provided more specific examples of activities you can do in Whistler. More specifically, what makes growing up in Whistler unique from just simply visiting. Before, I felt like ChatGPT was acting like a local would be acting the same as a tourist in the town, so I wanted to change it to reflect accordingly.

What surprised you the most about this experiment?
It knew such specific things about Whistler like Ziplining and the Gondola.

What are you concerned about or unimpressed with?
It seemed to give a very one sided, touristy view of the town.
