We carefully picked out the audition pieces that showed a range of emotions but that also didn’t have too much dialogue so we could see how they embodied and sat within the character. They had a breakdown of the scenes so they could understand their character’s progression, using the script as an aid to see how their character develops and their relationships with the other family members.

I had a rough plan for what I wanted each day however we ended up being ahead of schedule, I believe this is due to having job lists, which we looked at each morning and afternoon, so they could see exactly what tasks needed doing. 

One of the ways I kept organised was by creating individual folders within Microsoft Teams, so I was able to keep track of what was completed and what else there was to do. But it also helped with being time efficient as everything was all together in one place. We didn't have to chase people for a certain document as they were all organised within teams. 
My visions, influences, and research was always shown to the cast and crew so they could visualise my ideas and how I wanted the film to look. 

When I had sent the cast off on their job list, I spent most of my time with the actors rehearsing. Character breakdowns were massively important in creating and molding the actor into the character. The script, scene, and character breakdowns helped the actors to able to fully embody the character and the script overall. 

I made sure we kept lists and records of everything we did, this benefited the project as if an issue was raised it meant we were easily able to go back and look at what was originally planned and fix it. 

Pre-production was all about finding our feet within the project and keeping organised. We decided to film for four days, meaning it would be more intense on set as we would be filming a lot of content but over a shorter period. I decided on filming this way as the content was heavy for the actors to perform so I wanted production over four days rather than two weeks to help the well-being of the cast and crew.  But also to help the actors stay in character. 

It also helped in terms of the props and location, instead of doing a scene and packing it down we were able to store all props and equipment on location and even dress the set for the next day something we wouldn't have been able to do if we have split it across two weeks. I also wanted to leave us time to watch the footage we got and see if we needed to re-shoot and have a week spare to do so rather than when we came to edit and realising we had a problem and having to get the cast and crew back together six weeks later. 

Everyone was extremely clear on the aims of the film and how I wanted it to look, so it felt smooth and polished on set as everyone knew their role and what was expected of them.

All the documents were shared amongst each other, this was a great help as it meant other crew members could help out even if it wasn't their role as they knew what was required, for example, the production co-ordinator helping touch up the actor's hair or the location manager helping organise the props. Helping to keep us on schedule.  

Days 1 and 2 of filming went great, On Day 3 we had some issues with the cast member forgetting their lines, slowing production down slightly, and also the overall morale of the group as people were getting tired having just done two intense days. This meant we had to film earlier the next day and also required me to go round with food and drinks trying to boost the energy of everyone.

There was added pressure on Day 4 due to having to re-film scenes as the actor didn't know his lines from the day previous. We also had a cast member lose their voice which we dealt with accordingly. However everyone put in the work meaning we finished ahead of schedule, so were able to relax and celebrate for the last hour. 

Parts of filming were challenging but they were all situations that were out of my control. When it came to putting the footage together it was already organised in great detail so we had a rough edit with it all colour graded by the first week of post-production. 

I and the producer would go in every other day watch it, give notes and then come back watch the newer version and make notes, as that was the routine that worked for us.   

When it was near perfect, I sent the film to a few people who knew nothing about the projects for feedback and because we had the time to edit things if they spot something we haven’t been seeing. 

Our editor within the second week of post-production struggled with time management. I dealt with the situation as much as I could. I put my faith in her which unfortunately led to some things I was unhappy with. In the future, I will always double-check and re-check the film and not just put my trust in the crew.
