I work at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. It is important for the health system to civically engage ALL because western Mass is #besternMass! We're a ways from the state capital: Boston--Beacon Hill. And Springfield is the 10th poorest city in the Unites States, based on the U.S. Census's 2013-2017 American Community Survey. The more we can engage our community in terms of voting, the healthier it will be. I also think we can reduce poverty along the way, through increased voter awareness of the issues on every single local, statewide, and national ballot.

I am retired from a school system but continue to have contacts there. I will certainly be addressing Vot-ER issues with my former colleagues. It is a delicate matter in the system where I worked because parents were advocating for parent rights and those issues impacted our last gubernatorial race. I think it is important for the students in that particular system to understand the issues and their right to vote as they become eligible. I believe that the students of this particular jurisdiction may in fact have some very different values and opinions from their parents and they need to understand what voting means. Unfortunately, these very vocal parents are also trying to impact the curriculum to mirror their way of thinking.

Lindsey Roth, LMSW: Yes. I work in a correctional facility, which can complicate things if a client is waiting to stand trial for a felony charge. This is because convicted felons cannot vote in Georgia until they have completed their sentence. Sometimes, this sentence can include continuing probation upon release. However, myself and my colleagues encourage every arrestee to register to vote, especially those with brief holding periods and those with misdemeanor charges. I would say, particularly arrestees, have several complaints about access to services (ie community resources), lack of free assistance during incarceration, and ultimately the steps in the justice system they are forced to cooperate with. It is important to civically engage my clients and inform them that they do have a voice to advocate for themselves regarding the issues they face in the community, in a correctional facility, and their future.

Want them to see that they are the voice for their entire family.
