Male

I feel like the "male culture" has been changing for the better in recent years. Growing up with anxiety, it was hard to hear sayings like "toughen up" or "be a man", because to me, it was the same thing as someone telling me to "ignore it". With the rise of mental health awareness, I find it strong to face the problems you're dealing with. More recently with the internet and memes, I've found more men discuss how you should tell your "bros" you love them, and how it's okay to rest when things get tough, and it's been much healthier. There are also memes about dudes who like to visit the wilderness, hunt like cavemen and be more aggressive, which can be funny and relatable to an extent. Today, it's becoming more accepting to be "your own man", and not an image of what a man should be, and I'm all for it.

I've always loved to tell stories. Even before I had a camera, I would draw comics to tell stories. Film making, to me, is one of the best ways to tell stories, and bring someone into a world you've created. I also feel like it's a great way to teach empathy, because it allows you to see the world and how somebody perceives it in time through their eyes.

As far back as I can remember, I've been fascinated with computers and computer games. As soon as I learned how to use a mouse and keyboard, I searched the internet for games to download that hopefully didn't infect my computer with viruses. (What a time) Being able to immerse yourself into a world and become somebody new is such an amazing experience. I've been more engaged in this culture during COVID, because it is one of the few ways I can still participate in activities with my friends. It's nice to occasionally challenge myself with something while most days are sedentary from the pandemic.

Anxiety (Generalized and Social) is something that slowly developed throughout my life, and really presented itself during high school. It was a very personal and secretive thing I dealt with for years, out of the worry of what others would think, but more recently I've learned how to live with it, and embrace the person it has helped me become.

It's currently my second semester of college, and I'm loving it. It's been nice to meet new people with different goals and interests, and work together as a group in projects. Although it may not be a typical college experience due to the pandemic, it's been amazing seeing myself and other classmates grow as people, becoming better at the things we do, no matter the circumstance.
