One reason due to his downfall was because of his failure to secure the divorce between Henry and Catherine of Aragon - the court in June 1529 was immediately refused by Catherine. In the summer of 1529, Henry used Wolsey’s position as papal legate to accuse him of Praemunire (working in the interests of the Pope rather than the King).
