China has used military instruments by demonstrating its military power through deploying massive amounts of ships at a time, this was seen on March 23^rd of this year where China deployed 40 ships and its only aircraft carrier with the purpose of symbolically responding to increased US surveillance, showing to all against China that there is a force that could stop them if they challenge China’s plans to fulfil their national interests. The building of the military islands base makes applying this force easier, China has just recently finished building its military bases in the South China sea in the spratly island region that is extremely central to many states in the south China sea region and allows for efficiency when deploying ships and aircraft. 

China use of the military instrument of naval parades demonstrates China’s military power in the Asia pacific region. This occurred on April 12 2018, The event, which involved more than 10,000 Navy personnel, was the fifth sea parade by the Chinese navy and the first in the South China Sea. This particular demonstration of naval power is motivated by China aiming to protect it territorial security within the maritime region of the south china sea. This need for territorial security is often seen to be in response to America’s increased air force surveillance operations within the region. - Patrick

Archie - China’s military demonstration in the South China Sea is an attempt to scare off America’s surveillance operations and maintain the region without any contest. By preventing surveillance, the world has much less understanding of China’s planned developments for the area and any further potential for controversy with planned developments. By warning off the USS Mustin, China made it’s intent to keep America out of the south china sea clear. The military parade also has the effect of threatening other smaller states with claims to the region and secures China’s claim on the area in the region.
