At the Annex Jonas talks with The Giver about the changing incidents. After a test The Giver says to Jonas that he starts to see the color red. They keep talking about red and colors. He feels angry because everone is happy with this dull life and he tries to transmitte memories to some of his felas, without success.
One day Jonas receives a memory about a killing of an elephant for his tusks. Jonas is weightend by it. At that night Jonas tries to explain Lily that elephants have been real and tries to give the memory to Lilly but also without success.
Jonas and The Giver about having a spouse and the difficulties with having one as The Receiver. Then they chat about why The Receiver is important for the community.
The Giver sometimes sent Jonas away because of the pain he feels from the memories. By this time Jonas look at landscapes and tries to hold the colors so long as possible. For Jonas it feels like he lays there in fear for hours. He even starts to welcome death herself.

In his room Jonas start to feel very lonely because he is the only one (expect for The Giver) that have felt such pain.
Now Jonas gets painful memories. After a memory of hunger The Receiver asks The Giver why they have to get these memories. The answer is it gives them wisdom. They talk some more about being the Receiver and giving advices to The Elders.
At one evening Jonas suggests his parents to put Gabriel in his room so they can sleep soundly. Middle in the night Gabriel starts to trash and whimper. Jonas goes to him, pattes his back and without noticing Jonas transmittes a memory to Gabriel. Gabriel becomes quiet. At the evening meal Jonas asks his parents if they love him. They are startled and say it´s a meaningless and not precise word so they don´t use it anymore. Jonas doesn´t think love as something meaningless. By the question if Jonas understands why the word "love" is inappropriated, Jonas agrees. That´s a lie.
In his dwelling Jonas talks to Gabriel that things could change and there could be colors, granparents, love.

Jonas looks out for Asher and he finds his bicycle. Some kids get out of their hidding spots and imaginary shoot at each other. It´s a game of good guys and bad guys. It´s a game of war. Jonas goes slowly in the middly of the field and is hit by several players. He has no reaction to it. He is on the verge of tears. The other kids ride away on their bicycles. Just Fiona and Asher are here and asks what´s wrong. Jonas tries to convince them to stop playing this game but they (more Asher than Fiona) don´t understand. Being alone Jonas feels the lonliness and sadness overwhelming him.

Because after I read it to the end, I asked myself: does the action of Jonas has some impact on the community or did Jonas die without a purpose. I also don´t like open endings and this novel has one. It´s so unsatisfying. The whole dystopic world and the communities are interesting. Why did they start to live like this? What other rules do they have? Do people live in Elsewhere? In my opinion it is acceptable to use it in the school for students. The language is easy and therefore you can do exercises to it. At the beginning I also was confused what was happening because I didn´t know anything about the society. It would have been easier if we knewsome aspects about the community before starting to read the novel. In some situations, I wished the author described Jonas’ feelings towards some things more.

In conclusion it´s okay but I would just read it for school and not in private.
